senior software engineer

Seeking a seasoned software engineer with strong Perl skills. The software engineer will be responsible for the design, development, integration and maintenance of software projects, and coding to business requirements while conforming to the company?s technical architecture. This is a challenging position requiring in-depth knowledge of LAMP technologies.

 

This individual will be a member of the team responsible for technology development and operations for clients external web site. Specifically, the engineer will have ownership over key pieces of the site?s technology, with responsibilities ranging from working with business leaders to define requirements to managing the launch process and many tasks in between.

 

Specifically, this position will play a key role in:

 

? Designing and developing new applications or enhancements to existing applications

? Working with product management team to identify promising new technologies and developing proofs-of-concept

? Serving as development lead on projects involving contract development teams

? Refining business requirements for new site features, and working with editorial team to enhance site usability

? Backing up other team members in performing systems administration tasks

 

Qualifications

 

This is a hands-on development position requiring the following:

 

?  Expert-level proficiency in PHP and Perl skills (especially object-oriented Perl)

?  Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript

?  At least five years experience in software development (with at least two years in web application development), with exposure to the full development lifecycle required

?  Solid understanding of Apache 1.3 and 2.0 operations and integration in a Linux/Unix environment

?  Familiarity in basic Linux systems administration, with preference for RedHat Linux Enterprise Server 4 or Fedora Core

?  Development experience with the mySQL platform (v.4.1 or later). Exposure to database clustering a plus.

?  Experience working with open source tools and applications, with prior participation and contribution in open source projects a plus.

?  Experience in one or more of the following technologies: content management (major plus for knowledge of Krang); search engines; on-line registration systems; and content personalization

?  Experience with Autonomy search technologies a plus

?  Expert knowledge of XML, XSLT, SOAP, CSS, DHTML, and XHTML

?  Familiarity with AJAX a plus

?  Strong organizational, problem-solving and communications skills (must be able to do basic technical writing)

?  Experience in on-line media operations or advertising highly desirable

?  Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment and exhibit grace under pressure

?  Ability to work independently with no hand-holding
