Art Director, Product Design

publicly owned creator, manufacturer and distributor of social
expression products. In the United States, our greetings cards
are marketed under the names American Greetings, Carlton Cards and
Gibson. Other domestic products include DesignWare party goods,
GuildHouse candles, and Learning Horizons educational products.

The Art Director, Product Design is a specialized Graphic Design Studio leader who's primary team function is to plan, design and produce derivative card product. Team leadership includes the management of a staff of 8-10 full-time graphic designers, freelance and flexible resources. Graphic designers on the team have combined planning, conceptual, trending, layout, type, digital and production skills.

H/she uses design knowledge and product development talents together with management and leadership skills to direct the processes, systems, technologies and personnel within the derivative planning teams in the creative division. Also, hires staff and evaluates and reviews performance. Keeps staff informed on corporate and divisional issues relative to personnel and product, as well as addressing and resolving key issues. Knows technical requirements necessary and has working knowledge of production systems for assigned product and projects. Initiates, supports and participates in project, product, or process development activities and innovation with staff by encouraging educated risk-taking, innovative thinking, teamwork and accountability. Maintains schedules and adherence to program plans. Explores new ways to manage and move forward the processes, systems, technologies and personnel.

A BFA degree or equivalent in graphic design plus five years of professional experience is required. Previous social expression industry experience and people management skills/experience is preferred.
