Lead efforts to apply new technologies and enhance the engineered designs of consumer products.  The Director will have leadership responsibility for the technical elements of engineering new platform technologies, applying engineering methods including Design for 6 sigma, and the management of internal engineering resources.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
1. Evaluate the viability of application of technologies to consumer products.  Use creativity and technical skills to develop product designs that integrate appropriate emerging and existing technologies.
2. Interaction with the various marketing organizations to develop new product platforms that meet consumer's and internal and external customers' needs.
3. Establishment of and improvements to the processes, methods, tools, and skills of the Platform Technology Engineering team.  This will include the utilization of 6  and other data driven methods to create and optimize product designs.
4. Scope definition and management of externally sourced design activities.
5. Provide oversight and motivation of a staff of engineering technologists in ways that foster creative product development.  Ensure the staff is aware of new, emerging technologies and engineering methods while staying focused on achieving objectives the company.
6. Management of budgets, schedules, and personnel for the Platform Technology Engineering function.
Education and Experience Profile
Required Education:
" Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Agricultural Engineering
Desired Education:
" Post Graduate degree in engineering or technical discipline
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Product Engineer for successfully marketed consumer durable, medical, automotive, or recreational products.  Experience managing people and processes.
" The position requires periods of high levels of output through high productivity and extended work time.
" Domestic and international travel is required for this position.  This will include travel to Europe and Asia.
" The position will provide technical, schedule, and budgetary oversight for a team of 5 to 8 technical professionals.
