Engineering Lab Supervisor (contract-to-direct), Midland, MI

q Effectively supervise and  positively motivate Engineering Lab personnel by:

o Provide appropriate leadership and successful individualized communication

o Consistently demonstrate successful motivational skills to maintain motivation, job satisfaction, productivity, and team spirit within department.

o Provide effective and timely resolution to departmental personnel issues.

q Supervise, direct and participate in lab activities required to characterize fluid, product and component performance including but not limited to fluid/system dynamics, material compatibility and functional performance.

q Collaborates with engineering, manufacturing, sales, QA and the customer as needed to develop testing plans and procedures

q Develop and perform testing procedures in accordance with meeting customers needs and specifications and appropriate internal procedures.

q Develop and set up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment, fixtures and procedures for product/component testing and evaluation,

q Develop and maintain systems, processes and standards in the lab necessary for its efficient and effective operation including but not limited to test requests, equipment calibration, sample processing, monthly reporting

q Compile and evaluate data statistically to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products; including report preparation and distribution of results.

q Record and communicate test data to respective departments, including writing reports to convey test results.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates in engineering, statistical, chemistry or other technical field.  At least 2 years successful supervisory experience with hourly personnel.  At least 3 years of Laboratory related experience. Experience with statistics, especially utilizing spreadsheets and data base systems.  Effective problem solving and data analysis skills.  Demonstrated strong power of observation with detailed written and verbal communication skills.  Familiar with testing industry standards (such as ASTM).  Experience with lab data acquisition methods. Candidates must also posses the ability to work effectively within deadline environments on multiple ongoing assignments, and demonstrate a teamwork approach.  Effective communication skills (both orally and in writing) are required.
