Product Manager - Consumer Products

Wanted:

Consumer product marketing professionals with solid new product development, offshore sourcing (Asia or other), and retail experience.  Our client has retained our services to identify and outstanding consumer products Product Manager.  A previous background  working with products that are sourced offshore in the home d?cor, decorative and/or the housewares industry is most desired.  Our clients products are currently sold through Mass Retailers (Wal-Mart, Target, K-mart etc.), DIY (The Home Depot, Lowes etc.), Food & drug, Hardware, Specialty, Department Store and Catalogue.  Previous experience working with consumer products where trends, colors and fashion are important is desired.  These products will be in homes around the world and must have an appeal! 

 

This Product Manager position will afford you the opportunity to utilize your creative abilities to develop new products and drive business.  This is not just another consumer marketing position where you can be one of many people involved in impacting the business.  This is a fantastic opportunity to leverage your product or brand management experience with a smaller well-established organization.  You will be reporting into a Director of Marketing and will have frequent contact with the President.  If you desire a highly visible consumer marketing position where you can quantify your efforts at the end of the year; we may just have your next career move.  This company runs lean, so your ability to manage many projects and responsibilities is critical. 

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

 

-Develop product line marketing plans for assigned product lines. 

-Be the expert in product, market and the end user (voice-of-consumer)

-Identify new product opportunities through a multitude of sources

-Manage product line P&L

-Plan & Manage the development, launch and exit of products

-Monitor and report on the competitive environment/landscape and products

-Work with industry market research sources such as Synovate to understand the competitive landscape.  Make recommendations based on findings.

-Work closely with domestic and international engineer, quality and procurement professionals.

 

QUALIFICATION

 

-Bachelor?s degree REQUIRED, MBA or MS preferred.  We will not be able to respond to those applicants without a minimum of a Bachelor?s degree.

-Previous experience in a traditional consumer product brand manager or product manager role.  We will consider CPG marketing experience, but you will need experience working with products more durable in nature where new product development and working with engineering and other resources is essential.

-Previous experience working with outside marketing resources (e.g. Industrial design, packaging design, market research etc.)

-Excellent analytical, project management, communication and team working skills required

-Any experience with products that incorporate electronics such as small appliances would be a plus but not a must.
