DESCRIPTION:  The responsibilities of this job include leading the efforts of identification and acquisition of bioactive chemicals and botanical extracts that can be used for cosmetic purposes. The job does not involve any synthetic work. Ingredient identification will take place through efforts such as literature searching, scientific meeting attendance, and collaboration with external vendors for identification, synthesis and scale-up of components. The job includes working with legal and business associates to draft research and development agreements. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for communicating chemical and extract information to project teams to direct and support in vivo and in vitro testing efforts. The candidate will work with Product Development, Purchasing and vendors to assure successful commercialization of the selected bioactive materials. The candidate will also collect and provide necessary technical and background information about the bioactive materials to support product launches. The candidate will work closely with the Sr. manager currently within the group.REQUIREMENTSThe candidate appropriate for this position will have a Ph.D. in either Medicinal chemistry, Biochemistry or Organic chemistry and experience in initiating strategic partnerships with companies and/or universities. A minimum of 6 years of related work/research experience in design, acquisition and evaluation of bioactive materials for pharmaceutical or cosmetic applications is required. Knowledge of pharmaceutics development, computer-aided drug design, and chemo informatics are beneficial. The candidate must have an outgoing personality and is expected to demonstrate an enthusiastic image, and positive outlook. The candidate must maintain a professional attitude when working with both internal and external vendors and associates. The candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, project management skills, and database searching proficiency. Finally, the candidate must be able to work well in a matrix environment, on team-based projects, and be highly flexible and adaptive to change.
