Customer Service Associate (Phones) - Indianapolis, IN

Provides superior service by delivering products and services to meet or exceed customer expectations. Satisfies customer needs, as defined by World Class Customer Service (WCCS), through a variety of service channels.

- Builds strong customer relationships, loyalty and retention.
- Assists customers in the selection of product from the Grainger Catalog, as well as, other resources.
- Presents product promotions to customers in order to increase sales and customer awareness of product and service capabilities as defined by WCCS.
- Uses the computer system to provide information on pricing, availability, and alternate product selection to complete customer transactions.
- Resolves pricing situations encountered during customer transactions using current sales policies.
- Replenishes counter displays, while maintaining a professional appearance and inventory accuracy.
- Applies credit and pricing procedures to meet customer expectations while minimizing financial risk for the organization.
- Maintains inventory accuracy through effective use of computerized scanning equipment and other inventory maintenance reports.
- Refers customers to other internal/external resources when the need arises.
- Actively participates in Company's quality initiative and supports continuous improvement by utilizing the Customer Focused Quality System and Voice of the Customer tools, such as Customer Concern Forms (CCF's), Opportunities for Improvement (OFI's) and Request for Corrective Action (RCA's).
- Works effectively with others in a team based environment to accomplish organizational goals and to identify and resolve problems.
- Performs necessary housekeeping duties in order to maintain a clean, safe, organized working environment.
- Performs warehouse and other duties as assigned.



- Must feel comfortable working in a dynamic, team-based environment where priorities are continually changing.
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision within specified time frames.
- Able to operate computerized scanning equipment and PC based programs such as Word
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Has an understanding of our primary product offering and service capabilities.
- Able to identify problems and offer alternative solutions and/or courses of action based on available resources.
- Demonstrates dependable, on-time performance.
- Able to lift up to 70 pounds on a regular basis.
- Able to operate power equipment including forklifts, pallet-jacks, and hand-carts.
- Demonstrates a commitment to providing superior customer service.
- Conveys information clearly and concisely.
- Professional in appearance, attitude and action


This position involves a high level of customer contact and has daily impact on customer relationships by providing superior customer service and operational excellence. This role influences decisions by sharing vital information from customers with the organization. Represents the "Voice of the Customer??? to the company.
