In this exciting position you be the primary point-of-contact for the State of Maryland's Management Team and employees as the dedicated administrator of The Standard's Group Life products for this strategic customer. You will work on-site with the State of Maryland in Baltimore, but report to our Sales office in Lanham, MD. This unique role, one of only three nationwide, blends the best elements of administering this key benefit for the State of Maryland's employees, and serving as the focal point managing a critical customer relationship for The Standard.

Primary responsibilities for this position include:
- Act as a liaison between the State of Maryland and The Standard. Assist the in the administration of the Group Life insurance contracts including lead role in preparing for and finalizing contract renewals, assisting state employees with understanding of various coverage and benefit features of the plans, managing employee enrollments, evidence of insurability requirements, beneficiary designations, and coverage eligibility criteria. Address customer service, claims, and contract issues, and other group life related inquiries, from the state's employees and benefits team.
- Assist the state's benefits staff, employees, and their family members and/or beneficiaries with the filing of claims, including respond to claim and coverage inquiries, verifying appropriate premium administration, etc.
- Attend planning meetings and training sessions as requested/required. Both may require travel locally and to headquarters in Portland, Oregon.
- Lead or participate in special projects related to the customer's insurance plans as assigned.
To succeed in this exciting role you will need:
- Ideal candidates will have demonstrated progressively responsible experience in Employee Benefits, with a focus on Group Life plans, including 2+ years direct experience managing/administering Group Life insurance plans. Experience gained via either HR experience with employers having >1000 employees, with a group benefits carrier or producer/broker/consultant in a customer service/Account Management role, highly desirable. Additional working knowledge of Group Disability and Dental plans highly desired.
- Excellent Customer Service skills, including the ability to express ideas clearly to a broad audience in both oral and written communications. Ability to research, understand and solve customer service problems. Ability to read, comprehend and explain group insurance policy terminology and coverage features to diverse audiences. Ideal candidates will have 1+ years direct customer service experience.
- Ability to plan and organize your own work to meet changing priorities and diverse customer needs independently; analyze problems, interpret and apply benefits contract provisions to varied situations; make apply sound judgment to complex customer issues.
- Demonstrable success achieving results independent of oversight by Managers/Supervisors utilizing appropriate judgment, communication, relationship building, and problem solving.
- Education: Degree in Business and/ or related field desired.
