Systems Development Specialist-Mid-Level Oracle DBA
Description:
This mid-level Oracle DBA performs all aspects of database administration including hardware and software analysis, design, installation and maintenance. This position requires in-depth knowledge of database concepts, practices and procedures and works regularly under demanding deadlines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
1. Support and maintain Oracle database applications. Designs, develops, installs, implements, fine tunes, documents and/or maintains databases.
2. System tuning, performance monitoring and database maintenance.
3. Work with and support development staff with project implementation, maintenance and trouble-shooting.
4. Evaluation and/or testing of hardware and/or software components, products and systems.
5. Participation in the development and preparation of documentation for, but not limited to, procedural, program and user documentation.
6. Participate in backup and recovery planning and process.
7. Communication - Effectively communicate with multiple departments to gather requirements, provide project status and to resolve any requests or issues.
8. Miscellaneous - Assist in miscellaneous department activities and projects as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Experience with Oracle tools for database maintenance and development: Oracle Net, Oracle Developer 6i ? 10g, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle Replication Manager and Oracle Database Designer.
2. Experience with Oracle 8i, 9i or10g required ? HPUX (primary), Linux and Windows Server.
3. Proficiency in a UNIX type environment.
4. Knowledge of shell scripts on HP-UX and Linux, PL/SQL and Oracle ProC.
5. Proficient with RDBMS and database management.
6. Must have the ability to work well under pressure and with minimum supervision.
MINIMUM PREPARATION / STANDARDS NORMALLY REQUIRED
1. Bachelors Degree in related field or equivalent work experience required.
2. 3 or more years of related work experience as Oracle DBA, ideally supporting a call center environment. Oracle certification preferred.
3. Experience with Oracle Forms/Report server preferred.
4. Oracle Application Server experience a plus.
5. Some after-hours work nrmediate-level professional, the Systems Development Specialist is a fully qualified individual producer who applies a broad knowledge of engineering/automation concepts, practices and procedures. Incumbents are competent to work on fairly complex assignments (and/or portions of larger, complex systems) and perform a full range of development activities. The incumbent generally works under deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads, and operating with only general supervision, although errors at this level can cause delay, expense and/or disruption. May provide occasional functional guidance to less experienced staff. Incumbents are responsible for the installation, development, implementation, and customization of hardware and software system elements.

Engineering evaluation and/or test of materials (H/W and/or S/W components, products and systems).
Preparation of detailed specifications from which programs will be written, or equipment fabricated or installed.
Application of configuration management procedures for changes to the operating system files and software.
Performance of associated process studies, research investigations and requirements analyses of all aspects of communications and telecommunications system, etc., by applying statistical/analytical and modeling or engineering techniques, procedures and criteria in specialized areas.
Participation in the development and preparation of documentation for, but not limited to, procedural, program and user documentation.
Designs, develops, installs, implements, fine tunes, documents and/or maintains databases, database dictionaries; monitors standards and procedures and integrates systems through database design and administration.
Works with users to ensure successful system implementation; may assist in user training.
Occasionally, may provide guidance and assists in training of less experienced staff.
May research or write portions of technical proposals.
Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and compiles information into recommendations and analyses.
Education and Typical Years of Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including 1 year developing large, technically complex systems and 6 months with major responsibility for developing, revising and controlling technical documentation of a complex system.

Experience developing applications using .NET, ASP, HTML, and Visual Studio, including MS Basic, Visual Foxpro
Highly proficient with RDMS, database management, and ODBC connections
Proficiency using personal computer and associated work station/computer-assisted tools, etc.
