The Instructional Design Lead provides day-to-day direction for multiple smaller scope training development efforts ? specifically course efforts or significant components of larger development projects. The Instructional Design Lead provides significant input for conceptual designs and is responsible for developing detailed designs based on high-level module designs. The Instructional Design Lead ensures that projects are executed according to CDCoE process, quality, budget, and milestone standards. The Instructional Design Lead tracks and reports progress to ensure completion according to agreed-upon schedule and within budget requirements for an average team of 1-3 Instructional Design Analysts/Senior Analysts.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare conceptual design documents
Create initial conceptual designs (based on proven instructional theory) that meet
business requirements.
Complete detailed designs based on high-level module designs.
Develop instruction modules and materials based on design specifications.
Conducts audience and needs analyses to confirm appropriateness of learning objectives.
Initiate course effort
Create detailed workplan for effort based on budget and resource plan provided by the supervisor
Prepare interview protocol and recommendations for course design based on
preliminary or conceptual design information
Facilitate content gathering from Subject Matter Experts to create course design
Define field trial and acceptance test approaches
Confirm Client Subject Matter Expert agreement of detailed schedule and involvement
throughout process, set expectations for remainder of project.
Identify detailed learning objectives for each course based on business drivers and
performance goals; map course content to appropriate learning objectives
Facilitate project kick-off meeting with internal team to build understanding of the
client subject matter expert roles and project; set expectations with team based on individual
development plans and course schedule
Execute training solutions production on all types of development projects
Design and develop course content and facilitate media requirements according to project
workplan and schedule
Develop materials according to CDCoE process standards (as needed)
Identify learning-related issues such as content sequencing, flow of information and
relevancy of media
Evaluate materials to ensure that learning objectives have been met and appropriately
satisfy performance gaps.
Review deliverables for completeness, compliance with standards, and consistency with the
detailed design; prepare materials for manager review
Create test plan; lead course usability, testing and implementation of corrective actions
Provide oversight on content revisions given feedback from client subject matter experts
and field trial participants; manage work effort to maintain scope
Support training solutions development process
Coordinate project activities between all disciplines including media, technology,
project management, client onsite or business interlock and delivery teams
Identify continuous improvement areas based on lessons learned; modify process
steps as appropriate for client situation with direction from manager
Collaborate with team, peers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) via professional
communication channels to maintain relationships
Qualifications
Education:
BA/BS - Prefer degree in Instructional Design, Cognitive Psychology, English, Technical Writing, Communications, related field or equivalent experience.
Required Skills:
1-3 years Academic or practical training/learning industry experience
1-3 years Demonstrated experience developing performance solutions
1-3 years Solid knowledge of instructional design techniques, adult learning theory, and web-based development tools
1-3 years Knowledge of and practice with several instructional approaches (web-based, instructor-led, or virtual instructor-led training)
1-3 years Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and MS Project)
1-2 years project management tools including workplanning and resource scheduling
This role may include one or more of the following technical skill areas:
1-3 years Technical writing, and communications, related field or equivalent experience (such as engineering or telecommunications)
1-2 years Telecom industry including both VoIP and legacy PBX
1-2 years Applications and operating systems (Windows Server, Unix, Red Hat and Enterprise Linux)
1-2 years Advanced networking concepts and protocols (OSI, routing, SNMP, DHCP, LDAP, TCP/IP, Firewall, VPN, NAT, DNS, TFTP, QSIG, H.323, E1, T1, BRI, PRI, ISDN and HTTP)
1-2 years Advanced networking certification required (ACS/ACE or CCNA required, CCDP, CCNP, or CCIE preferred, and Wireless certifications a plus)
1-2 years Avaya Communication Manager system installation, configuration, and troubleshooting as well as experience with telephony administration, advanced and alternate call routing, and endpoint configuration
