Position Summary

Under limited supervision, this position is designed as a hybrid position that provides services both to students and employers. The Career Services Specialist advises or counsels students regarding career issues and strategies, job search methods, resume preparation, internships, job placement and related matters. Additionally, they partner with local businesses and companies to increase the amount of job leads for DeVry students and alumni.
Overall knowledge, experience and responsibility level:

Knowledge: Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments.

Experience in field: 3-4 years

Responsibility: Usually works with minimum supervision, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters. May be assisted by Entry level personnel. Assignments are broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity. Has appreciable latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Individual and group career advising sessions with both the undergraduate and graduate school populations. This advising would include direct involvement in part time employment, internships, co-op opportunities and student employment within DeVry. 2. Advise students on career development, job seeking skills, and industry trends in order to effectively prepare them to gain employment upon graduation. 3. Assist graduates in securing educationally related employment within 26 weeks of graduation. This includes bi-weekly contact of students, resume assistance and critiquing, conducting mock interviews. 4. Provide ongoing feedback to students with respect to individual job search skills. 5. Assist students in identifying areas requiring further training or knowledge and work with them in creating personal and professional development programs. 6. Assist students in on and off-campus interview schedules. 7. Ensure accurate reporting of all activity into the Interfase System. This includes but is not limited to observation cards, career advancements/placements and job development activity. 8. Specific job development activities for all DeVry programs. 9. Develop long term working relationships with business and industry. 10. Responsible for entering all advising and job development documentation into the Interfase System. This includes but is not limited to observation cards, career advancements/placements and job development activity. 11. Participate in Advisory Boards and school wide committees assigned by the Dean or Director of Career Services. 12. Participate in student/alumni activities, career fairs, graduation and related events. 13. Preforms related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

~Bachelors degree required. Master's degree strongly preferred. Minimum of two years direct career services or closely related experience. Preferably from an educational institution. ~One or more years supervisory experience is a plus. ~Minimum of one year corporate relations, corporate outreach or marketing experience required. ~Minimum of one year experience with any type of computer applications.
