Child Development Specialist

Job Purpose:

Helps developmentally delayed and at-risk children from birth to three and their families by providing multidisciplinary child and family assessments and interventions.



Duties:

* Assesses children with developmental delays and at-risk children by selecting assessment instruments; evaluating cognitive, adaptive behavior, social-emotional, self-care, fine motor, gross motor, and communication development; participating in multidisciplinary assessments.

 

* Provides individual interventions by scheduling, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the intervention plan.

 

* Educates families by providing family-focused activities; keeping parents informed of current child development trends and practices related to the needs of their child.



* Helps families act as advocates for their child by establishing and maintaining relationships with families; providing supportive assistance to families; facilitating parent-child interactions; encouraging parents to participate in as normal a lifestyle as possible.



* Accomplishes child development objectives by measuring results against plans and standards; evaluating and improving methods; making required changes.


* Avoids legal challenges by keeping client information confidential.



Skills/Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Child Development, Education, Psychology and related fields.  Experience working with children preferred.  Bilingual a plus.
