Developmental Specialist

Job Details: Casual Positions with an end date of: 6/30/07 or until grant funding ends.

JOB SUMMARY:

Developmental Specialist actively enhances developmental skills of children 0-6 years of age. Must be able to establish a comfortable rapport with child, and respond differentially to children based upon their age and understanding of the child's developmental level/disability(ies). Seeks to be informed of cultural differences and responds appropriately to the diverse backgrounds of individual children. The developmental specialist will conduct parent trainings which address issues of child development and parenting. Additionally, the child development specialist will interact with other professionals within DSEP to create developmental curriculums, particitipate in research, and work to best understand each child's individual needs. The developmental specialist will communicate and follow-up with service agencies to advocate for appropriate developmental intervention.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual (English/Spanish) required for 1 of 2 vacancies currently available.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in clinical, developmental, or educational psychology or related field with major emphasis on child development and education and treatment of children and their families.

Competency in working with children with special needs and their families in parent training.

Knowledge and experience working with children in San Diego County Child Welfare System.

Coursework or experience in using behavior modification and positive behavioral programming.

Recent experience in a pediatric setting (within the last two years) is required.

Demonstrated ability to maintain and manage caseload, complete records in timely manner, to provide a variety of community services, and to work effectively and harmoniously with professional and clerical personnel.
