Director-Training & Developmt

Summary of Responsibilities

This position has responsibility for learning strategy supporting Institutional-s Service goals and will support the Customer Service Center-s four lines of business (Small Market Service, Voluntary Services, Mid-Large Market Service, Employee Service), including all products and systems, by creating and implementing training and non-training solutions tied to business objectives. The candidate will manage and develop a team of consultants focused on performance improvement and project management. He/she will also work with groups across MetLife, including HR, in support of cross-organizational objectives and will direct a team charged with aligning the efforts of Sales, Service, Products and other partner organizations to deliver effective learning solutions. He/she will also contribute as a management team member, attending regular business meetings and contributing to and occasionally leading business initiatives that effect positive and measurable change.

 

Principal Responsibilities

- Lead a highly-engaged team to great results

- Build and implement a learning strategy to provide effective solutions that enhance performance

- Manage the training unit and budget, including developing and managing a staff of professionals, while providing excellent customer service

- Manage small- and large-scale projects with competing priorities; partner with other Learning & Development leaders to ensure curriculum is current

- Focus on measuring level 3 and 4 evaluation results

- Participate as a member of the business units- Planning Boards to provide insight on training and organizational development and to gain insight on the businesses- strategies and corresponding L&D needs; leverage best practice among the various lines of business and partner organizations

- Own relationships for at least 4 business functions; provide business and leadership consulting to leaders

- Source, select, and manage subject matter experts and vendors

 

Required Competencies

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate and build lasting, productive relationships with all levels within and outside the organization; ability to troubleshoot, influence, and break down barriers for self and team within a matrix organization

- Experience leading professional teams, including retaining, developing, and managing staff and creating and managing a budget

- Highly competent and experienced in adult learning principles and contemporary learning theory and practices, including needs analysis, curriculum design, interactive learning technology, evaluation, and overall performance consulting and organizational development principles, including competency modeling

- Ability to provide holistic solutions that take into account sales and service perspectives

- Ability to develop short- and long-term strategies and create and implement plans through others in a dynamic and changing environment with competing priorities

- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including planning and facilitating meetings and writing reports to build commitment, share information, gather input, and accomplish tasks

- Proven experience with identifying learning synergies across organizations/units and creating plans to leverage them

- At least 8 years- relevant experience; Masters Degree in Business Administration, Education, Instructional Design, Communications, HR or a related discipline with experience preferred

- Customer service orientation

- Experience with and highly competent in process management and operational effectiveness; Financial services industry experience desired, especially in voluntary group insurance; experience in customer service and operations, underwriting, and/or sales preferred
