Document Specialist - Technical Writer

General Summary   Under minimal supervision performs writing tasks on documentation projects designed to support the PracticeWorks? product offerings. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

 
Writes and maintains end user documentation (manuals and online help) to support PracticeWorks? products using established styles and procedures
Edits documents based on technical reviews by QA, development, support, and training.
Reviews and provides peer edits for other documentation specialists.
Learns each PracticeWorks product by reviewing old user guides, release notes, and any materials available. Attends training sessions for a better understanding of the product. Simulates use of product to learn product features and functions.
Prepares project plan for each set of documentation deliverables. Updates plans and calendars as project scope and release dates change.
Works with the QA team for clarification of product functionality.
Works with the development team to prepare for upcoming releases (i.e., Demo Days, product release dates and timelines).
Each documentation specialist has a primary focus (Dental, Oral, or Ortho) and work is provided directly from development. Projects are coordinated and work is balanced by the team lead with the help of the Manager.
Each documentation specialist works independently on writing projects but is reliant on other documentation specialists and educational developers / product specialists for review and edits.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 
Bachelor?s degree in technical writing, journalism or related field.
3-5 years writing experience in the software industry.
Ability to quickly learn multiple software products.
Working knowledge of current versions of Framemaker and Robohelp.
