EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS SPECIALIST - FOUNDATION

THE DEPARTMENT:  The Systems Group is responsible for providing technical and administrative support for all library systems including networking and telecommunications systems.  In consultation with the appropriate staff, the group recommends, implements, and maintains those systems relevant to the Library?s mission and needs.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  The Equipment Systems Specialist installs and configures a wide variety of hardware including personal computers, network cards, printers, scanners, memory, drives, cabling, etc.; maintains upkeep on all operating systems and application software to the latest version; implements equipment upgrades and modifications on all Library systems; assists Library faculty/staff in the use and operation of equipment and configuration of Library systems/software; supervises and trains student assistants in assigned job duties.  Serves as liaison between the Library and computer resources on and off campus; assumes overall responsibility for assessing Library?s computer equipment; documents procedures and maintains all hardware documentation for the Systems Group; maintain service database and database for hardware and software; selects and procures computers and related equipment; secures all hardware; attends seminars, workshops, and classes to continually enhance knowledge on computer hardware/software-related issues; performs other duties as assigned.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to two years technical education (AA Degree) directly related to the duties of the position (Electronic, Telecommunication, Industrial Technology).  Additional work experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.  Basic knowledge of electronic theories, mechanical design, and understanding of the operation and use of technical information systems and application program packages, common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems, sources and training methods; understanding of networks, data communication and multimedia systems; basic knowledge of office equipment and small hand tools.  Must be able to lift equipment (approximately 75 lbs).  Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills.  Ability to work independently; ability to work with a diverse population.

 

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  Self-motivated and ability to take initiative in day to day duties.  Excellent organizational skills.
