Evan Start Adult Educator

General Duties:

The Even Start Adult Education teacher is responsible for the implementation of educational activities for a given population and teaching parents their role in their child?s education and how to create a learning environment in the home.  The Adult Education Teacher provides assessment and individual educational planning and programming for adult students working to improve their literacy, and home visits and group sessions focusing on the parent?s role in their child?s education.  Students may be of varying educational levels and cultural backgrounds, studying for General Education Degree (GED) Adult Basic Education (ABE) or English as a Second Language (ESL). The Adult Education Teacher functions as part of the Even Start Team, helping families achieve their educational goals.

 

Specific Duties: Even Start Adult Educator assesses adult students for placement, planning, goal setting and progress reporting with the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), Basic English Skills Test (BEST) and other measures as needed. 

 Provides creative educational programming for adult learners with significant challenges, using a variety of methods and materials.  Programming must integrate aspects of parent education and be specific for adults in the Even Start program.

Participates as part of the Even Start team for each family.Interacts with program participants in a warm and friendly manner.

 Participates in agency-sponsored workshops, required Even Start trainings or other educational trainings.

 Develops adult education curriculum and learning activities to integrate with educational goals of all program components.

 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor?s degree and Michigan Teaching Certificate.  Experience in adult education (GED, ABE, ESL) with a diverse population.  Excellent English and Spanish reading, writing and communication skills.  Must have valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
