Position Description for the Executive Director of the Foundation for the Education of Young Women

 

 The Position

The Executive Director of the Foundation for the Education of Young Women provides outstanding leadership for the Foundation. The Board and the Founder presently support the Director.  The staff positions consist of a Director of Development, a CollegeBound Counselor, and an administrative assistant.

 

The Foundation

 

Mission of the Foundation is to support single-sex, college preparatory, public education in Texas that will give young women in urban schools the academic skills to achieve success in college by thinking critically, leading purposefully, and living healthy and responsible lives.  The Foundation supports projects at the Irma Rangel School in Dallas, and it expects to provide one-time grants to establish similar schools in five other Texas cities.  A board of community and educational leaders advises the Foundation.

 

The offices of the Foundation are at 15303 Dallas Parkway, in Addison.  Responsibilities

In assuming the various responsibilities involved in running the Foundation, the Executive Director is committed to the mission of the Foundation to support and encourage single-sex education in the public sector, and to honor the principles of the School.  Other responsibilities will include: 

 

? Daily operations of the Foundation, with a 40% focus on fund-raising

? Communication with school districts and individual school constituents

? Communication with sister schools and foundations in New York and Chicago to optimize best practices

? Close contact and communication with the Principal of the Irma Rangel School in Dallas, the area superintendent, and the superintendent of the Dallas Independent School District. 

? Serving as a spokesperson for the Foundation.

? Keeping abreast of developments in the educational world, particularly in the area of girls? schools

? Provide leadership in the creation and implementation of Foundation policies, procedures, and budget.

? Monitor legislative actions at the state/national level that relate to potential funding/grant opportunities

? Provide leadership regarding the implementation of new programs in designated Texas cities

? Provide leadership and recommendations for implementation of educational initiatives for each Texas area All-Girls School.

 Candidate Qualifications

Particular qualifications sought in the next Executive Director:

 

? Proven success as an engaging and inspiring fund raiser for a nonprofit entity, or significant comparable business experience

? Proven writing and speaking skills

? Familiarity with how public school systems function

? A track record of meaningful experiences with persons of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities

? Enthusiasm for travel and research

? An effective and engaging communicator (listening, writing, and speaking) who interacts well with donors, school constituencies, and professional colleagues

? A level of competence and sense of presence that invite respect and confidence
