Job Summary
Portland Community College is the first college in the Pacific Northwest to partner with Caterpillar Inc., an international heavy- equipment manufacturer, to host the company's ThinkBIG program. The partnership will give PCC's Diesel Service Technology program theopportunity to train students as Caterpillar technicians at PCC's Rock Creek Campus in Washington County.
This is a full time (1.0 FTE) faculty position. Probationary appointment will begin in Fall, 2006. Hours of work may include evening or weekend teaching assignments and will be based on instructional load and travel. Assignment will be based at the Rock Creek Campus and include travel to off-site locations.
OPENING SUBJECT TO BUDGET CONSIDERATIONS AND APPROVAL
Responsibilities/Duties
-Prepare and deliver instruction in lecture, laboratory or shop
setting utilizing a wide variety in formats including lectures, demonstrations, discussions, recitations, and incorporating audio- visual media; electronic technology and computer software.
-Develop and prepare new curriculum and review, revise, and update existing curricula.
-Work constructively with colleagues within the college as well as high school, four year colleges and universities, community, industry
representatives to prepare students to be contributing members of society and the workplace.
-Recruit, advise, and tutor students; individually and in small groups.
-Develop meaningful laboratory exercises and/or shop activities including material and projects used in these areas.
-Identify and specify equipment, materials, and supplies needed for educational purposes to be submitted on the budgetary process.
-Constructively evaluate students using objective standards.
-Prepare and administer and evaluate quizzes, examinations, papers and projects submitted by students and provide feedback.
-Assure safe handling of material and equipment at all times by students and staff.
-Active participation in college, campus, division, department and subject area curriculum committees.
-Compile and research data as may be assigned.
-Maintain a clean working area to include lab/shop / classroom and office area
-Troubleshoot and repair equipment
-Fabricate training aids
-Welding/cutting
-Travel to off-site locations
-Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
5 years experience in equipment/diesel or automotive service industry as technician or teaching in same area(s) or combination.
Preferred Qualifications
An Associates or Bachelors degree, minimum five (5) years as a Caterpillar (or similar) Service Technician or Diesel / Automotive Service Technology Instructor or 5 years recent teaching experience in Diesel, Auto or equipment areas or a combination of the above.
Demonstrates successful interpersonal skills, communication skills and PC skills. Equipment speciailty certifications and or ASE certification a plus.
