PLATO currently has an opening for an experienced Instructional Designer, Sr. to work within our Development division at our corporate headquarters in Bloomington, MN. We are open to job seekers nationwide that are willing to relocate for this position.
The Instructional Designer, Sr. provides instructional design vision and leadership to ensure that product designs are educationally sound, based on current research, best practices, pedagogy, and the developmental needs of the target audience. The Instructional Designer, Sr. is responsible for training, mentoring, and evaluating the work of instructional designers and writers to ensure that the design vision within the instructional architecture, the scope-and-sequence, and the activity specifications are met at a cost and time acceptable to our target market. Additional responsibilities for this position are as follows:
? Authors key design documentation that conveys the product vision to the production team
o Instructional Architecture
o Activity Specifications
o Lesson-level design models and templates
? Publish research papers defining Plato product?s instructional design philosophy and pedagogy.
? Establish creative vision for instructional design content to enhance learning experience for students and teachers, leveraging cutting edge technology.
? Provides design leadership to in-house, offshore, and subcontract design teams
o Communicates the design vision to the team.
o Reviews work to ensure the scope-and-sequence, instructional architecture, and activity specifications are adhered to consistently.
o Trains and mentors team members in the design process.
? Leads the instructional design process overseeing the review of design deliverables including:
o Brief Designs
o Detailed Designs
o Scripts
o Layouts
o Teacher Support Material
? Continuing education for both personal and professional development in job-related fields and in new technologies to keep PLATO courseware competitive.
? Represents the company and its product line in formal demonstrations for field staff, clients, potential clients, conferences and other interested parties upon request with target of twice per year.
? Participates in strategic company-wide initiatives to represent product development upon request.
The qualifications we are seeking for this position will include a Bachelor?s degree in Instructional Design or closely related field (Masters Degree preferred). We are seeking at least five years experience in instructional design and computer-based curriculum development with at least one year experience working in K-12 and/or Post Secondary development. Proven experience leading the design effort for educational products is strongly preferred. Some additional qualifications include the following:
? Excellent communication skills
? Polished skills as a presenter and ability to speak to a range of audiences (large, small, expert, general)
? Expert writer of instructional scripts as well as design documents
? Teaching experience desirable, but not required
? Knowledge of and experience with educational technology in the school environment
