Internet Librarian/Reference Librarian

Position Summary:

Providing professional level (Librarian) support for Agency reference, public access, and information management services in multiple formats such as e-mail, web forms, paper mail, phone, etc.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Duties may include but are not limited to:

 

The provision of professional level support for Agency reference services in multiple formats (e-mail, web forms, and paper mail, phone, etc.), including assisting in the processing of controlled correspondence.

 

Supporting the preparation of a monthly statistical report for the paper mail and e-mail reference services.  Maintaining lists of resources, publications, websites, etc. on various environmental topics.

 

Reviewing and updating of standard response templates in collaboration with supervisory staff.  Assisting in review of new materials for inclusion in staff current awareness lists for staff and evaluation of resources for possible inclusion in the electronic reference collection and desktop services.

 

Assisting in consultation on the development of the upper level Agency webpages and supports public and staff access via Internet and intranet resources.  Providing input on upgrades and/or repairs to the website based on user input and comments received from users of the services provided.  Making recommendations for improvements and enhancements to the Internet and Intranet to increase usability and accessibility.

 

Providing support for Public Access and Intranet Controlled Vocabulary projects, terminology integration, web document cataloging functions, and assisting in the development and evaluation of taxonomically controlled web content.

 



Qualification/Requirements:

  Exemplary reference search skills and virtual reference experience.

Demonstrated strong written and oral communication abilities.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.

Proficient in web searching and web page construction. 

Knowledge of HTML and current web publishing applications.

 

Other Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and office applications.

Knowledge of Section 508 Accessibility Requirements for websites.

 

Education/Training/Experience:

ALA accredited  Master's Degree / Library and Information Science

 

One to two years library experience.  Reference / public access services required. (Virtual Reference and e-mail reference.) Experience with controlled vocabulary management, taxonomy development and/or Web site development experience is a plus.
