LAB COORDINATOR
The University of St. Thomas, a private university committed to the liberal arts and to the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, is seeking a qualified professional to serve as lab coordinator in the Biology department.
This individual will report to the Chair of the Biology department and be responsible for providing technical support for all biology laboratories. He or she will prepare and assure the availability of all laboratory materials, solutions, equipment, and supplies, maintain a computerized inventory of supplies, equipment, and chemicals, train and instruct teaching assistants and work-study students, coordinate their work schedules and evaluate their performance, develop and maintain a lab preparation manuals, instruct lab exercises in the absence of instructors, attend lab section of exercises, review purchase orders for accuracy and completeness, collaborate with business office to resolve business-related matters, maintain a safety program for students, staff and faculty, maintain a file on all Material Safety Data Sheets, and safety equipment and assist faculty with waste storage, documentation and disposal. May be required to teach a lab section.
The position requires Master's Degree in Biology or Chemistry (or related field) required minimum, (PhD will be considered), a minimum of one year of work experience or research in a teaching or research laboratory, excellent communication skills, the ability to perform calculations necessary to support labs, to coordinate laboratory preparations according to varied schedules and to maintain cultures of bacterial and fungal organisms for microbiology required. Candidate must be able to lift 20lbs, bend, stoop and kneel.
This is a part-time position, 30 hours per week while school is in session. Partial benefits including paid vacation, holidays, sick time and retirement.
