Librarian - Access Services

 

Description

This position provides leadership, organization and oversight for interlibrary loan, document delivery and permissions for course readings. Reporting to the Director of  Library Services, this position supervises the Interlibrary Loan Technician and the Assistant Librarian ? Course Readings and Copyright, serves as the direct liaison with the interlibrary loan service provider, collaborates with other Capella University librarians to develop instructional materials, participates in collection development and serves as a backup for reference services and library instruction.

 

Responsibilities

?  Oversee operational aspects of interlibrary loan, document delivery and copyright permissions for course readings

?  Plan develop, interpret and implement policies and procedures for interlibrary loan, document delivery and copyright permissions for course readings

?  Serve as liaison with interlibrary loan/document delivery provider assuring operational functionality and high quality service for learners, staff and faculty.

?  Provide supervision for Interlibrary Loan Technician and Assistant Librarian?Course Readings and Copyright

?  Ensure that Capella University Library?s interlibrary loan policies are followed

?  Ensure compliance with copyright related to course readings

?  Provide a variety of statistical reports such as usage, missing items, fulfillment time and items requested

?  Maintain knowledge of developments and trends in all areas of access services

?  Participate in collection development including the identification and evaluation of high-quality, relevant online databases and reliable resources on the Internet

?  Contribute to the development of sessions, tutorials, modules, user guides, web pages and learning objects for courses and for the library website in collaboration with the Information Literacy Librarian and other members of the library services team.

?  Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the library website

?  Provide general reference services for learners, faculty and staff and assist learners in using library databases and other online resources as needed

?  Provide online and face-to-face library and information literacy instruction for learners and faculty as needed

?  Participate as an active member of the library team to accomplish library and departmental goals and initiatives

?  Other duties as assigned

 

 

QualificationsMLS from an ALA accredited institution

?  Three years relevant experience in an academic setting

?  Knowledge of interlibrary loan processes, lending library systems and policies, library networks, consortia and resource sharing

?  Knowledge of current and emerging trends related to interlibrary loan and document delivery services and technology including OCLC, Illiad, Ariel

?  Demonstrated management and organizational skills and supervisory experience

?  Knowledge of copyright law and its application in academic libraries

?  Excellent troubleshooting, problem solving and analytical skills

?  Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member with diverse faculty, staff, learners, vendors and service providers  in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment

?  Reference librarian experience in an academic library

?  Excellent communication, interpersonal and instructional skills

?  Strong customer service philosophy

?  Demonstrated ability using computer applications, such as Microsoft Office

?  Occasional evening and weekend hours required 

?  Travel required
