The USC Rossier School of Education is one of the world?s premier centers for the study of urban education. The Rossier School of Education is organized by academic programs (Ph.D., Ed.D., Master?s and Undergraduate/teacher education) instead of by academic departments (Educational Psychology, etc.).  Each Program office has a director who is a clinical professor on a 12 month appointment and supported by a program governance committee of full-time faculty who provide academic oversight for the program.  The Master?s degree programs include a college student affairs degree, a marriage and family therapy and related school counseling degree and credentials, a set of teaching English as a second language degrees, an Educational Psychology/IT degree and a set of programs for school teachers in areas such as reading.  Please visit the RSOE website for more information about these academic programs.

 

This is an especially important time for the Master?s degree programs.  Over the past three years, the Rossier School of Education has made important progress in creating program coherence, building a program office and refining procedures, creating a program leadership infrastructure in each of the specific programs and enhancing our student affairs practices and data systems.  The agenda for the next three years will require greater attention to curriculum leadership, new program development, quality management and marketing efforts.

 

Job Responsibilities



We are seeking a program director who will be a full-time clinical assistant professor for a 12-month appointment, with a 3 year initial commitment and potential for renewal.  The successful candidate must be able to provide:

 

1.  Program Leadership: interact productively with faculty around intellectual and governance issues; act as primary spokesperson for program; represent the program in school-wide planning and operational meetings; maintain active relationships with alumni and other partners.

2.  Management of the Program: determine course schedules and assign instructors; facilitate high quality program delivery.

3.  Management of the Office: manage staff and budgets; establish effective workflow of tasks, enhance communication regarding operations at all levels.

4.  Recruitment & Admission Support: coordinate with recruitment officers to attract and retain highly qualified students; manage admissions process to ensure achievement of all benchmarks.

5.  Program Support Services: coordinate world-class student support services and academic advisement; effectively resolve student difficulties in a fair and impartial manner.

6.  Manage Quality Improvement?evaluate program performance; collaborate with faculty to develop and meet challenging quality goals; manage program improvement efforts.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

The successful candidate will have:Earned doctorate in educational field from a research universityBe self-directed and able to effectively supervise staff on complex, deadline-driven projects. Understand the culture and structure of a research universityHave experience in the recruitment and management of graduate students in higher education programs is preferred.  Have strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Desired Experience

He or she also will have:Academic interest/experience in educational leadership, broadly defined, especially in urban education.A record of Successful management of staff with diverse backgrounds.Exceptional skills in balancing the demands of academic rigor and administrative responsibility.
