Public Library Director

 

LIBRARY DIRECTOR POSITION HILLSIDE PUBLIC LIBRARY

 

 

The Board of Trustees of the Hillside Public Library in the New Jersey metro area is searching for a dynamic and inventive director to serve a diverse population of over 21,000.  The Hillside Public Library presently has an operating budget of $735,000.00 and a staff of twenty.

 

Responsibilities.  The Director plans, implements and evaluates library services; oversee the recruiting, hiring, training, supervision, assignment and retention of staff and delegates responsibilities to staff; recommends policy to the Library Board and plans for the implementation of public library goals and objectives; prepares annual budget and administers the budget and other fiscal affairs; manages communication and public relations both within the library and the community; oversees collection development ; oversees maintenance of library building, equipment and furnishing; attends meetings of the Library Board of Trustees; keeps informed of current developments in the library field through involvement in professional activities and literature; performs routine library duties and related work as needed; acts as liaison with Hillside Township officials, public schools and the community, develop and maintain an outstanding public library and to encourage as many community residents as possible to take full advantage of its resources.

 

Qualifications, Experience and Training. A master's degree in library science from an ALA accredited program and the ability to qualify for a New Jersey professional librarian's certificate; a minimum of five years of progressively responsible library experience in an automated library; including employee supervision and experience in public library administration. Experience should include familiarity with the use and management of computerized library resources in a networked environment, thorough knowledge of financial management; collaborative and consensus-building skills; detail oriented, flexibility and creativity, ability for cooperation and collaboration; and good interpersonal, verbal and written skills.

 

Compensation: Minimum starting salary $80,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits.
