Under direction of an assigned supervisor at Mission College, perform a variety of lead, more complex and specialized technical duties related to certifying veterans, processing student registration, applications and forms, registering students into classes, collecting and accounting for fees, gathering and disseminating information, assume responsibility to work independently, provide technical information and assistance to students, counselors and other college personnel as appropriate; maintain comprehensive automated records according to Admissions and Records requirements and regulations.
ASSIGNMENT
100% full-time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work schedule may include evenings and weekends, as needed. Work location: Mission College
SALARY AND BENEFITS
$2,976 entry level / $3,893 maximum earnable excluding longevity and educational growth

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination equivalent to:
Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in business, human services or related field AND
Three years of increasingly responsible clerical and technical experience in a Student Services area including at least one year in an Admissions and Records assignment, involving frequent student contact, demanding schedules and timelines and the operation of a computer using specialized student information system software applications.
Demonstrated ability to work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Operation of microcomputer equipment and various software programs including student information systems, word processing, database management and spreadsheet computer applications software.
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as initial source of information and assistance to persons contacting the college in person and on the telephone; provide information about college schedules, catalogs, policies and procedures, registration and admission procedures, matriculation, graduation requirements, course offerings, transcript requests or other college programs and services; refer students to other Student Service areas as appropriate.
Receive and review applications for veterans and dependent educational benefits under the various G.I. Bills in effect; assure that applications are complete and correctly completed; view, copy, stamp and sign marriage and birth certificates; establish eligibility of veterans and dependents according to established procedures.
Review educational goals of each veteran in relation to current courses; verify number of units and course dates to determine amount of benefits due; sign as Certifying Official and forward to VA regional office.
Establish and maintain veterans? files; type memos and letters and communicate with the Veteran's Administration regarding benefit problems and discrepancies.
Assist and advise veterans regarding benefit eligibility, program requirements and VA regulations; monitor veteran unit load and notify VA of any changes effecting benefits within prescribed time limits; monitor total units completed by veteran and prepare correspondence to the VA as needed.
Distribute, explain, receive, review, check for completeness and accuracy, process and maintain various forms, applications and records such as admissions and registration forms, high school and college transcripts, cumulative student records, graduation and certificate applications, transcript requests, student enrollment, employment verification, foreign student and veteran?related forms.
Process mail?in, late and telephone registration requests; accept registration payments; process adds, drops, reinstatements, transfers, credit/no credit authorizations, withdrawals and related registration transactions.
Distribute and receive positive attendance and grade sheets; review materials to assure proper completion; enter, process and consolidate data as required.
Collect cash, checks, money orders and credit card payments for student fees, tuition and other charges; make change and issue receipts; balance and maintain change funds according to established procedures.
Input, post, update, retrieve, verify, monitor and track student data related to student records, payments, awards, grades and registration; record personal, academic and other student data as appropriate; detect and correct errors and discrepancies; monitor student academic progress, enrollment status, unit hours and related information as assigned.
Compile, record and retrieve data; assist in preparing federal, State and institutional reports according to established program requirements and policies; maintain various records, files, logs and lists; process, distribute and file paperwork as required.
Compose, type, format, duplicate and distribute correspondence, reports and other materials independently or as assigned; type from oral instructions, rough drafts, hand written copy, letters, memos, reports, requisitions, course material and other related documents.
Open, sort and route mail; respond to routine requests for information; print, stuff and mail forms and letters; operate microcomputer, computer terminal, printer, calculator, copier, facsimile machine and other office equipment.
Maintain current knowledge of the regulations, policies and application requirements related to admissions and records.
Perform related duties as assigned.
