Student Finance Supervisor

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Student Finance, this position is responsible for the oversight of (and personal participation in) the day-to-day activities in the Student Finance Department. This position includes administrative activities such as: assisting all types of students and their parents with Student Finance paperwork and aid related questions, resolving financial aid problems, coordinating information with E-Finance staff, advising students regarding financial aid issues and monthly payments to DeVry, training staff, scheduling assignments, advising interrupt and graduating students, generating written and computer reports, ensuring aid is disbursed in a timely manner, interacting with other Offices, and performing various other administrative duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provides assistance and advising to students (and/or parents) regarding Student Finance issues including financial aid issues, Educard payments and individualized financial planning options.

2. Reviews and researches student accounts, especially those with high balances, and works to resolve delinquencies, financial aid funds (i.e. loans and grants) not disbursed and to obtain required paperwork/information.

3. Ensures accurate and timely data entry using various computer systems and software including Power-Faids, ELM, Gateway, NSLDS, OSS-DeVry, DSM-DeVry, etc.

4. Participates in interviewing, hiring and training employees; conducts employee counseling sessions and completes annual performance reviews.

5. Trains staff and ensures that they understand and follow applicable office procedures and all state and federal regulations; supervises Student Finance staff and ensures efficiency and accuracy within the department.

6. Delegate assignments and schedules staff to efficiently operate the Office, meet goals and cover various functions/activities.

7. Ensures that staff processes work accurately and at high production levels while maintaining a 97% accuracy rate.

8. Stays current on all applicable aid policies/regulations and ensure that staff members understand and follow Student Finance and financial aid policies, procedures and regulations.

9. Oversees the PELL and TAG Programs, allocates resources and properly assists in the resolution of issues and the administration of these programs as necessary.

10. Ensures accurate and timely authorization and disbursement, keys payment information into OSCAR/DSM, reviews DSM audits, ensures expedited disbursements as necessary; reconciles financial aid awards to ensure integrity of fund administration.

11. Supervises, provides backup support for and ensures the security of the Cashier.

12. Oversees all payment activity from agencies and outside parties; ensures all payments are properly keyed into the system.

13. Oversees and administers the Veterans Affairs program and ensures compliance with all VA regulations.

14. Administers the FWS program including hiring and training all FWS workers; collecting and reviewing all payroll documentation on a biweekly basis; posting FWS payments and reconciling funds; and providing usage reports to the Corporate office.

15. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor?s degree required. Two to three years of college-level financial aid experience required. Customer service, accounting, banking, cashiering or related experience preferred. Expertise required in financial aid packaging, loan certification, and the federal verification process. Some supervisory experience strongly preferred. Excellent analytical skills, computer skills and basic math skills required. Must be able to organize and prioritize workload. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to coach others to provide superior customer service. Ability to write reports and business correspondence to internal and external parties.
