Component Engineer

The position of Component Engineer is with a leading manufacturer of electronic equipment in Southern California. Responsibilities revolve around 2 key areas; (1) research and identify electronic components designed in to end product/assembly; (2) Evaluate, conduct, and approve testing procedures, equipment, and products for safety compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

?  Researches and approves alternate component sources.

?  Directs the evaluation and testing of components for use in product.

?  Generates and maintains component drawings.

?  Maintains computer database of approved components.

?  Researches and recommends alternate parts during shortages.

?  Analyzes failure reports to identify suspect components.

?  Maintains records of approved sources, temporary deviation authorization (TDA) logs, and test calibration logs.

?  Member of the Component Review Team.

?  Reviews P.C. boards and complete assemblies for safety compliance.

?  Set up test data requirements for the safety test technicians; supervise all in-house testing.

?  Reviews test data and recommend changes.

?  Prepare safety reports for distribution to various outside agencies.

?  Schedule product testing by Underwriters Laboratories.

?  Participate in meetings and design reviews to present the safety aspects affecting the product/project under discussion.

?  Assist in safety inspections and in-house audits; modify units or reports to comply with auditor?s findings.

?  Creates and maintains records and reports for national and international safety organizations.

?  Updates and maintains safety records and standards to comply with current safety agency requirements.

?  Communicates frequently with production, engineering, quality control, purchasing, and sales as well as outside safety agencies.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

?  Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;

?  Minimum of bachelor?s degree in electrical engineering plus 2 years related experience in an electronics manufacturing environment

?  or 2 years of college level engineering courses plus 5 years related experience in an electronics manufacturing environment;

?  proficiency with test equipment; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets.
