Position Summary:
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Worldwide Product Marketing, the Sr. Product Marketing Manager will drive product management of software content and applications, and work with cross functional groups within the organization to bring innovative products to market on schedule, and on budget. This individual will be responsible for execution of the content roadmap, including maps and charts, as well as location specific data such as points-of-interest. The successful candidate will also be responsible for driving key applications in entertainment, safety and security, travel assistance as well as route productivity. Responsibilities will include the development of value propositions, positioning and messaging for Magellan?s content mapping software and solutions; leading to the awareness, consideration, evaluation and purchase of products in key markets in North America and Europe. They will manage marketing efforts for new product introductions; competitive analysis; regularly report on business tractions, including financial and market indicators; identify business opportunities based on primary research and market analysis.
Specifically, the duties include:
Develop and execute on the consumer content and data roadmap; define the 12-18 month roadmaps and execute to launch products to meet key customer requirements Drive the roadmap for mapping products including topography maps and marine charts for target worldwide geographies Drive roadmap for key applications and data content including travel software, media/MP3 player applications, and points-of-interest data Establish and nurture influential relationships with targeted software and technology companies; driving the business development with key target customers to close on contracts and business agreements Coordinate between Marketing and other departments in the development of content and applications products including the documentation of product specifications, packaging, collateral material and accessories Create marketing plans that will guide product introduction, advertising, trade show participation and other key activities during the lifecycle of the productIdentify, interpret and communicate key drivers and trends within the GPS content mapping and key technologies to help shape the strategic direction of Magellan?s content and Location-Based-Services (LBS) strategyCompetitive Knowledge ? remain alert to the emergence of new competitors? capabilities, strategies, and actions and develop action plans
Qualification and Experience Requirements:
v Demonstrated track record in software product management & strategy, as well as a broad understanding of the hardware and devices industry
v Complete product lifecycle management experience with several software products from product definition, development, launch to end-of-life
v Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage several content or software products and programs in a shrink-wrapped and/or online download environment
v 10 years experience with direct relevancy
v BS, Engineering or Computer Science
v MBA preferred
v International marketing experience preferred
v Experience in cartography, GPS mapping is desirable (not mandatory)
v Experience with cell phone company, electronic games, E-commerce mapping (i.e. Google maps, Microsoft Map Point, etc.), content providers (i.e Zagats Guide), or aggregate content providers (i.e. InfoSpace.com, MapInfo.com, or mobimate.com) where applications and content are transferable
v Flexible with a strong ability to work/lead in a ?TEAM? environment
v Strategic thinker
