Staff IC Design Engineer

We are Micro Systems Engineering, Inc. (MSEI) part of the worldwide BIOTRONIK
group, an electronics manufacturer located near Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We now have an opportunity in our Houston, Texas Design Center for an experienced Staff IC Design Engineer.

This position involves a role in Chip Design engineering (IC Design Engineering). In this role the direct interface with system level engineers, hardware engineers, firmware engineers along with IC design, test and layout engineers will be required. Most importantly this individual must be familiar with specific tools used by the US IC design team mainly in the mixed signal Cadence Design tool flow but may include tool use of from Mentor and Synopsys. This position reports to the Director of IC design in the Houston and will work closely with engineers and Group Leader in the Oregon IC Design center and SDD.

Key Responsibilities/Expertise necessary:
Key responsibilities may include the following elements:
-Experience in very low power, low voltage design techniques used in mainly digital design however analog and mixed signal design expertise is also highly beneficial.

-Experience with embedded controller designs, controller architectures like 8051, ARM, HC11 and other high performance low power embedded controllers is beneficial.

-Experience in very low power memory (SRAM) design, cell library characterization for Low Power/Low Voltage operation and etc are also beneficial.

-Experience in system level architecture of IC?s and partitioning of analog vs. digital functions and hardware vs. firmware implementations are also necessary in this position.

-Collaborate and work effectively with other members of the IC design group in other design centers on various aspects of a project(s) and most importantly with SDD (hardware and firmware) design teams for UP and other major projects at Biotronik.

-Must be skilled in the use of high-end CAD tools and various levels of CAD simulation/design environments. Experience with the use of Cadence tools like Analog Artist, AMS, Spectre, NCVerilog, P&R tools and Assura simulation verification and Assura extraction tools is highly recommended.

-Use of MathLab, and MathCad to perform theoretical analysis of high level and system level design efforts for mixed signal circuits will be required also.

-Experienced in Unix/Linux OS, Shell scripting, TCL, Perl, AMPLE, Synthesis tools, and some moderate use of C/C++, and Cadence SkillTM programming are necessary.

Position Requirements:
Advanced Degrees in Electrical Engineering (BS, MS, or PhD) are preferred.
Strong Focus on high quality, ultra low power, low voltage, integrated circuit design in both digital and analog circuits.
Strong technical skills with 5-10 years experience in digital circuit design with experience in mixed signal IC design/development or in skills obtained from internships with applicable companies are beneficial.
Strong technical communications skills including verbal and writing skills for documentation.
Background in IC design in the file of cardiovascular implantable devices is also beneficial but not required.
