Surveillance Tech III

Essential Job Duties: Installs, tests and repairs CCTV equipment such as cameras, VCR?s and digital recording systems, wired burglar alarms, and related apparatus.  Including radio communications equipment.  Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with the customer and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.  Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.  Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.  Responsible for analyzing and interpreting test data.  Adjusts, calibrates, aligns and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance.  Writes technical reports and develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system?s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.  Converses with equipment operators to ascertain problems with equipment prior to breakdown and to determine if cause of problem was due to human error or mechanical problems.  Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge and applies knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.  Tests electronic components and circuits to locate defects.  Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts.  Aligns, adjusts and calibrates equipment according to specifications.  Calibrates testing instruments.  Maintains records of repairs, calibrations and tests.  Enters information into computer to copy program from one electronic component to another, or to draw, modify or store schematics.  Installs equipment according to layout plans and connects inside and outside service wires.  Maintains equipment and analyzes operational malfunctioning with testing devices such as oscilloscopes, generators, meters and electric bridges, to locate and diagnose nature of defect and ascertain repairs to be made.  Examines mechanism and disassembles components to replace, clean, adjust or repair parts, wires, switches, relays, circuits or signaling units.  Operates and tests equipment to ensure elimination of malfunction.  Repairs cables.   Minimum Qualifications: Associate?s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.  Employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Ability to read and write English.
