Advanced Process Control Engineers

Qualifications for Candidates:

?  BS, MS or Ph.D. Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (Specialization in Process Control desired but not required)

 

Applications Engineer Candidate - Characteristics:

?  Solid understanding of Chemical Engineering principles

?  Good foundation in Mathematics

?  Long-term technical focus as a career objective

?  Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with diverse groups, i.e., technicians, plant operators, peers, analyzer engineers, computer systems engineers, & plant management

?  Interest in applying computing technology to the control of chemical manufacturing processes

 

Job responsibilities:

?  Develop understanding of aromatics, olefins/ethylene, chemical specialties, or polyethylene plant processes; key is to be able to discriminate between controls problems/opportunities and process issues.

?  Become proficient in the use of process control tools, including Honeywell TDC2000/PMX & TDC3000 distributed control systems (DCS), Compaq Digital Equipment Company (Alpha) supervisory computing networks, Foxboro control systems, and PLC/TMR programming and interfaces to DCS.

?  Maintain or modify existing process control computer applications and human-machine interfaces in response to changing operational conditions or console technician requirements.

?  Interact effectively with process operators, console technicians, other engineering and professional staff, and colleagues.

?  Comply with plant standards for process control applications; document applications work.

?  Identify opportunities for increasing plant safety, operability, or profitability that can be captured via application of process control technology; design and implement applications to do so.

?  Provide process control support during project development, design reviews, approval, installation, and startup

?  Participate in specifying hardware and instrumentation needs for advanced process control application systems.

?  Continuously improve professional skills with emphasis on breadth of DCS proficiency, process knowledge, and process control theory.  (BS/MS degreed candidates)

?  Continuously improve professional skills with emphasis on advanced control technologies, e.g. DMC, NLC, and RTO.  (MS/Ph.D. degreed candidates)

?  Utilize advanced process control skills to develop multivariable model predictive controllers (e.g., DMC, nonlinear model predictive control), optimization-based applications, or process monitoring applications (e.g., PCA/PLS analyses).  (MS/Ph.D. degreed candidates)
