Commodity Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Commodity Accountant is a critical position in the organization and is responsible for commodity accounting for the competitive energy businesses.  The responsibility of this department includes accounting for wholesale and retail commodity for multiple entities across three ISO zones with annual volume of approximately $2.0 billion.

 
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
?  Maintain compliance with internal controls and procedures related to commodity accounting and ensure that all transactions are properly recorded in the Peoplesoft Financial System.
?  Assist in the development of the monthly accrual for wholesale and retail gas and electric transactions, including sales volumes, revenues, purchases, as well as hedging gains and losses.
?  Account for gas and fuel inventory, including tracking injection volumes and costs, withdrawal volumes and revenues, fuel losses and any realized hedging gains or losses attributable to inventory.
?  Account for electric power generation from various assets, as well as coordinate the proper settlement with two ISO zones.
?  Ensure that payments to wholesale counterparties are properly settled and paid.
?  Prepare journal entries and accounts reconciliation.

DECISION MAKING/LATITUDE:
?  Allocation of revenue and cost of goods to the proper business units and strategies.
?  Ensure timely and accurate settlements with counterparties.

EDUCATION:
?  Bachelor?s Degree in accounting, finance or business is required.


EXPERIENCE:
?  Two to four years of relevant financial and business experience is required
?  Experience in the energy or financial services industry is preferred

JOB SKILLS:
?  Able to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines
?  Understanding of the commodity business
?  Able to handle multiple projects and priorities
?  Must have good analytical skills
?  Must be able to communicate effectively in written and oral form 

TECHNICAL (INCLUDES COMPUTER):
?  Experience with commodity trading and risk management systems is preferred
?  Experience with Peoplesoft Financials is preferred
?  MS Office computer skills are required
