Distribution Operator

As the second oldest company in Georgia, Atlanta Gas Light and its parent AGL Resources are not content to do business in the same old way. Today, AGL Resources is positioned to become the preeminent distributor of natural gas along the east coast, providing service through six utilities, two gas storage facilities and an asset management company.

 

The Distribution Operator will be engaged in installing and repairing gas mains and service lines.  Participates in making taps on mains and services.  Operates heavy equipment.  Performs welding duties.  Researches records on mains and services for relocating purposes.  Turns gas on and off at customer?s request and responds to both routine and emergency requests for gas service.  Serves as crew leader in lieu of foreman or supervisor.

 

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

? Repairs gas mains and service lines.  Taps lines and provides technical assistance in installing and/or repairing gas main or service lines. 

? Using leak detectors as well as natural senses (e.g., smell), locates gas leaks, decides on appropriate action and performs necessary repairs, documenting actions taken.

? Welds when installing, upgrading, and repairing gas mains and service lines while adhering to all safety and work rules.

? Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, ditch witch and crane truck.  Operates underground pipe locating equipment in compliance with Company guidelines.

? Organizes command post and serves as incident commander when handling emergencies

? Draws and reads distribution maps and compiles understandable reports.

? Substitutes for foreman in their absence.

? Responds to and executes call outs in a safe, reasonable, and timely manner.  Interacts with customers to answer questions, explain work and gain understanding.

? Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience Required:

? High school diploma or GED

? Must possess a valid state Driver?s license and pass Company driving test.

? Must successfully pass locate school and demonstrate skill.

 

Skills Required:

? Must demonstrate skill in electrofusion.

? Must demonstrate skill in operating equipment, such as, tapping, air operated equipment and CGI.

? Must possess skill in operating heavy equipment such as a backhoe, ditch witch & crane truck.

? Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan

 

Certifications/Licenses:

? Requires certification in mechanical fitting and certfication in plastic welding.

? Must possess CDL

? Must possess certification in acetylene welding.
