About the Opportunity As an Electric Distribution Dispatcher, this position assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the regional electric subtransmission and distribution systems, under general supervision of the Manager of Dispatch Services. This includes, but is not limited to: outage restoration during emergency or abnormal conditions with timely record keeping associated with the distribution system. Recommend operational improvements and communicate system events to the appropriate personnel. Operate the Energy Management System (EMS) and PowerOn outage management system (OMS), as well as radio and telephone systems. Analyze and act promptly in cases of system disturbance to restore the system to it's normal configuration. Provide technical analysis, monitor system conditions, schedule and/or authorize FirstEnergy subtransmission and distribution equipment outages and load transfers. Develop detailed scenarios to identify operating problems caused by contingency outages. Prepare switching and operating procedures for the distribution and subtransmission systems. Assign and direct switching activities and work assignments to trouble crews and switching personnel. Monitor system and weather conditions. Coordinate staffing requirements by calling additional resources to handle emergencies.
Qualifications
Required
Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience with demonstrated understanding to operate the electric subtransmission and distribution systems.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn Transmission and Distribution operation, maintenance, and construction practices, procedures, work methods, materials, equipment and tools to operate the distribution system.
Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with customers, supervisors, peers, employees, and contractors involved with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the T&D Facilities.
Skills in the development, collection, organization and analysis of information from a variety of sources to develop switching orders and recommendations.
Clear and articulate verbal communication skills to convey critical information to the field via the phone and radio in normal and emergency situations.
Must pass the EEI System Operator/Power Dispatching Test (SOPD).
Must be willing to work rotating shift schedule and be available for overtime work when needed.
Must reside within 30 minute commute time of the MetEd Regional Dispatch Office.
Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills to make quick assessments and deliver sound decisions in situations requiring independent judgment.
Must have reading and comprehension skills to effectively interpret switching requests, engineering prints, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and standards and procedures to develop switching orders.
Knowledge of, or ability to learn specific PC applications that support operation of the system, and record keeping.
