(Electricity Market) Standards Engineer

Summary of Responsibilities

The Standards Engineer is responsible for providing oversight, facilitation, and coordination of ERCOT?s reliability standards review and development process.  The Standards Engineer will maintain expert knowledge of ERCOT Protocols, Operating Guides, and NERC Reliability Standards that form the basis for ERCOT and NERC Compliance Programs.  The Standards Engineer will also maintain a solid understanding of the ERCOT wholesale market, initiate and maintain contacts throughout ERCOT, and take a lead role in working with stakeholder groups to discuss and refine reliability standards.  Essential Job Functions

? Coordinate the development of reliability standards with other related standards or regional reliability requirements development projects

? Solicit and incorporate compliance program input to standards in development

? Review ERCOT Protocols and Operating Guides, and all proposed revisions, for conflicts with NERC Reliability Standards

? Review postings of NERC Standards and related material for impact on the compliance program

? Facilitate the process for developing regional standards for ERO approval and filing

? Provide standardized templates for regional standards

? Communicate program requirements to ERCOT market participants through informational meetings, website postings, and other means

? Ensure that all program requirements are valid, measurable concerns for grid reliability, and recommend improvements, as needed, and see that measurement processes are fair and can be administered consistently

? Participate in compliance assessments (audit, investigations, periodic reviews) when requested

? Participate in the NERC Standards Development Process

? Work with ERCOT staff and stakeholder groups to prepare Regional responses to NERC inquiries Experience and Educational Requirements

? BS or higher degree related to electric power (an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered)

? Minimum 4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in bulk electric system operations and/or planning 

? Must be/be eligible to become a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas

? Understanding of technical requirements for electric system operations and planning

? Proficiency with computer applications for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations  

? Excellent organizational skills, with ability to apply them for document and project management

? Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently to cope with many deadlines

? Ability to travel both in/out of state, with possession of a valid Texas driver license (or ability to obtain within 60 days)
