Exploration Geologist – Site Survey Specialist

Location: Houston, Texas, United States Overview: Research, development and the deployment of technology for Shell's global exploration and production businesses is managed by Shell?s technology division of Shell International Exploration and Production (SIEP). Two companies, one based in The Netherlands and the other in the United States, work together to provide a wide range of products and services to Shell companies in the sector.

Shell's EP research center, Bellaire Technology Center, is one of the main technology centers for Shell globally, with other EP technology centers in Houston and New Orleans in the U.S. In-house R&D is supported by partnerships with external companies to maintain Shell?s leading edge technology for supply to Shell companies as well as the open market.

Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. is currently seeking an Exploration Geologist ? Site Survey Specialist for its Houston, Texas location.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for interpreting conventional and high-resolution 3-D seismic data to identify and map deepwater geohazards. Interpretation techniques include mapping events, seismic attribute analysis, interval amplitude extraction, fault mapping, and extensive 3-D visualization techniques.

You will use industry standard and Shell proprietary software to both qualitatively and quantitatively evaluate deepwater geohazards.

Key Accountabilities Include:
Developing well-to seismic ties to calibrate seismic interpretation and geohazards assessment
Interpreting high-resolution deeptow and AUV data, including: multibeam, sidescan, subbottom profiler, magnetometer
Using experience and knowledge of deeptow/AUV systems to ensure quality data and interpretation
Integrating deeptow/AUV data with 3-D seismic data to develop a complete geohazards assessment of planned deepwater developments
Understanding the different applications for multibeam, sidescan sonar, subbottom profiler, high-resolution 3-D seismic, and conventional 3-D seismic surveys
Exploiting data to develop the best geohazards assessment of planned deepwater field developments
Liaising with third-party contractors to develop interpretation products based on deeptow/AUV data and possibly 3-D seismic data
Interacting with numerous internal and external groups to develop a complete geohazards interpretation, based on all available data that meets the needs of all field development teams
Integrating sediment samples, borehole logging, and stratigraphic analyses to develop geologic framework for the seafloor and near-surface section

Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must possess a Master?s Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Oceanography, or related field and have approximately 3 or more year?s relevant professional experience. A Ph.D. is preferred. You will have experience with GIS software and familiarity with ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD is preferred. One year oor more of operational experience preferred.

Additional Requirements:
Familiarity with TritonElics and CODA software
Experience with deepwater coring operations
Familiarity with 3-D seismic interpretation techniques
Experience collecting and interpreting deeptow/AUV data
