Position Description:

The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Co. (P&M) is accepting online applications for a General Mine Manager, North River Mine (0608-50036738) located in Berry, Alabama through August 29, 2006.

This position reports to the Vice President of Operations of P&M Coal. This position is responsible for the overall management of The North River underground coal mine. The North River Mine employs approximately 380 people with annual coal production of 3.0 ? 3.5 MM tons. This position is responsible for the health and safety of employees, all production and maintenance activities, preparation and shipping of coal. Responsible for the security of the asset, business planning and budgeting.

Qualifications:

Provides leadership for a staff of 5 to 7 managers to safely and efficiently carry out the planning, administration and operations of the coal mine. This position is responsible to provide strong leadership in safety and a journey to become Injury Incident Free. Responsibilities include oversight of Engineering and technical solutions, Administration of the labor contract, fulfillment of the coal sales contract as well as responsibility for mine cost, OPEX and CAPEX, consistent with the corporate delegation of authority.

Special skills/requirements or additional considerations/information: Must be physically able to travel by foot underground on an identified mine escape route, carrying and utilizing any necessary escape apparatus, such as an SCSR or the like.

SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Bachelor?s degree required in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- 20 years of increasing responsibility in management positions in mining may be considered in lieu of academic preparation.

- Mining background and experience: understands underground mining with an ability to lead all activities associated with North River Mine.
- Ability to lead the development and execution of business plans for North River Mine.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Capable of interacting with labor union representatives for contract administration and leading change to achieve mine objectives.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of stakeholders such as local community leaders, political leaders, suppliers, corporation departments. Capability of understanding local culture and its effects on employees and the business.
