HVAC Service Technician

This Position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement

 

Performs a variety of customer service related work in mechanical, piping, controls and HVAC Chilled Water and Hydronic Heating systems.  Uses experience and technical skills with preventive maintenance and system operations to determine service requirements.  The work includes, but is not limited to, the operation and maintenance of customer equipment located at 500 Atlantic Avenue, Boston Ma.

 

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

1. Inspects/operates the main Steam Absorption Chiller System. 

2. Performs energy conservation measures.  Starts, stops and adjusts equipment as needed to maintain system reliability and efficiency.

3. Tests, repairs and services steam, condensate, hot water and chilled water components such as pumps, steam traps, pressure reducing valves, heat exchangers, cooling towers and hot water systems.

4. Prepares technical reports to accurately describe conditions and work performed.

5. Uses a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work performed on equipment.

6. Maintains and performs minor installation of controls for some equipment.

7. Performs logging operations using advanced instrumentation techniques.

8. Represents the company to other trades, contractors and owners.

9. Advises owner/representative of preventive maintenance inspections performed and corrective actions to be taken.  Suggests additional service/renovation requirements.

10. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

 



REQUIREMENTS:

1.  Requires a Mass. Journeyman’s Pipe Fitter’s License and a Mass. HVAC Technicians license.

2.  Requires a Mass. driver’s license and a safe driving record. 

3.  Experience in operating Steam Absorption Equipment a plus.

4.  Mechanical and electrical aptitude with basic HVAC equipment.

5.  High School diploma or equivalent.

6.  Capable of effectively representing JCI to our customers.

7.  Working knowledge of personal computers.

8.  Must be available for emergency call-ins.

 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

1.  Required to lift and/or operate machinery, tools etc. weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.

2. Required to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, scaffolding and stairs.
