Position Description:
Chevron Pipeline Company (CPL) is accepting online applications for the position of a I&E Specialist (0608-50160570) located in Kermit, Texas through August 23, 2006.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
I&E Specialists are proficient in I&E maintenance work processes required for the safe, accurate and efficient operation of pipeline systems. They coordinate their own work and work with other team members or contractors in performing daily I&E maintenance work processes. They act on their own initiative to identify and correct work place hazards, unsafe practices, security violations or environmental concerns. I&E Specialists may act as a field team liaison with Subject Matter Experts and perform link pin or link pin type responsibilities. I&E Specialists are process oriented with a focus on results. They apply technical and business principles and use quality tools and methods to make independent decisions in performing daily work. I &E Specialists maintain a minimum of Hazwoper Level III certification. I &E Specialists are capable of performing all of the job skills and meeting all of the requirements outlined at the Pipeline Trainee "A" and "B levels.
Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Perform routine troubleshooting and I&E maintenance repairs on assigned pipeline system equipment and facilities and routine I&E diagnostic and repair work on basic instrumentation and High/low voltage systems.
- Know Company, industry, agency and Government codes, practices, regulations and standards and obtain all necessary licenses and certificates pertaining to work performed.
- Perform a variety of semi-skilled I&E work including installing, disassembling/assembling, inspecting, repairing, and replacing defective parts on a variety of instrument and electrical equipment and facilities.
- Use drawings, blueprints, manuals and other technical references and perform arithmetic computations in the performance of daily work.
- Use the basic technical principles to determine the cause of pipeline system equipment problems and make the required repairs or arrange for additional diagnostic and/or repair support.
- Develop and perform routine maintenance checks.
- Perform, or direct the performance of a variety of skilled I&E work including installing, disassembling, assembling, inspecting, repairing, altering, and occasionally fabricating parts for pipeline system equipment and facilities including corrosion management, instrumentation, control and telemetering, and electrical (power) systems.
- Work may include high voltage installations and repairs and/or pole and line work at some team locations.
- Before operating alone, the I&E Specialist will have to perform and pass Operator DOT qualification tasks for Operations of pipeline system and those associated with the inspection, testing and calibration of pressure limiting transmitters, switches, valves and overfill protection devices.
- I&E Specialist will also perform the following duties and be required to pass the following DOT qualification tasks for Inspecting Rectifiers, Inspect Surface Conditions of Right of Ways, Conduct pressure tests, Valve inspection and maintenance, and Perform general pipeline repair activities.
- Dispose of, or direct the disposal of, waste generated as a part of daily worked performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all hazardous waste transportation and disposal regulations and requirements.
- Prepare manifests for the shipment of hazardous wastes and prepare samples for shipment.
- Participate in quality teams at the Field Team or Regional level to improve and standardized work processes.
- May lead sub-teams at the Field Team level.
- Develop and use metrics to analyze, improve and implement work process change. Assist in the training and coaching of other team members in routine I &E skills associated with assigned pipeline system(s).
- Provide input to, and implement the Business Plan at the Field Team level.
- Monitor and review financial performance metrics and recommend ways to improve the Teams financial performance.
- Track and trend assigned cost centers and cost elements.
- May act as Field Team liaison with Subject Matter Experts and perform link pin or link pin type responsibilities.
- Respond to inquiries regarding leaks, line locations and encroachments and take appropriate action to rectify.
- May coordinate the inspection, performance and documentation of facilities compliance checks, and track compliance checklists.
- Perform compliance inspections and participate in agency inspections.
SPECIAL SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS OR ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS/INFORMATION:
- Associate Degree Electrical Instrumentation highly desired.
- Relocation benefits will not be considered.
- This is a Safety Sensitive Position, accordance with DOT regulations, and is subject to random drug testing.
- Candidates who are not currently in "safety sensitive" positions will be required to pass a physical and drug test prior to placement in the job.
- Candidate will have to furnish a report of safe driving from local DMV and cannot have any tickets or citations for last 3 years.
- The work schedule is 5/40 Schedule, Monday through Friday.
- Some travel may be required and must be willing to be on call 24/7 to respond to equipment downtime.
- Requires individual to work some overtime after hours and on days off.
- The position being filled is an I&E Specialist position in the West Texas Field Team. This facility is located near Kermit, Texas; the successful candidate will not be required to live in Kermit.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Demonstrates ability to work with minimum of supervision using time management skills, prioritizing daily workload, and having initiative to perform all required jobs.
- Demonstrates ability to perform a variety of skilled I&E work including installing, disassembling, assembling, inspecting, repairing, altering, and occasionally fabricating parts for pipeline system equipment and facilities including corrosion management, instrumentation, control and telemetering, and electrical power systems.
- Working Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (Alan Bradley, Modicon, GE and Siemens) and Remote Terminal Units hardware.
- Wonderware (programming and trouble shooting) for control logic and interface. Communication Protocol (RS232, 485 and Modbus).
- Measurement equipment (smart temperature/pressure transmitters, pumps, motors, control valves, motor operated valves).
- Ultrasonic metering equipment (Controlotron).
- Demonstrates experience using PCs to manage and electronically transmit PLC, HMI, and flow computer software files.
- Participate in teams at the field level or regional level to improve and standardize work processes. Specific examples may include: Loss Prevention System.
- Management of Change.
- SAP-PM (Plant Maintenance) and SAP-Project Management.
- Smith Driving System.
- Use drawings, blueprints, manuals and other technical references and perform arithmetic computations in the performance of daily work.

- Knowledge of National Electrical Code.
- Knowledge of OSHA, DOT 192, DOT 195, EPA and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Knowledge of Chevron Corp. and Chevron Pipe Line's policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of waste generation and disposal.
- May act as Field Team liaison with Subject Matter Experts and perform link pin or link pin type responsibilities.
