The Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Engineering Specialist position will play a key role in delivering the Pipeline Business Unit (PLBU) strategy through technical engineering support, project management services, integrity management, compliance support and Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) performance. 


The PLBU has hundreds of facilities that include pumping stations, terminal facilities, delivery/receipt sites, and offshore connections.  This position will provide engineering and technical support to new and existing I&E Assets in the Gulf Coast and Gulf of Mexico business Districts.  This area continues to be the cornerstone of PLBU growth in support of Deepwater exploration and production activities.


Accountabilities Include:

Assuring PLBU HSSE goals are realized.
Acting as Project Manager or Technical Engineering Consultant on any PLBU district project.

Note: Most assigned projects will include or be heavily weighed on Programmer Logic Controllers (PLC's), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA), instrumentation, and/or electrical scope items.
Providing electrical engineering design and/or PLC programming services on smaller I&E projects.
Managing engineering contractors on projects.
Specifying and implementing I&E/PLC hardware, software and control philosophies to ensure safe, accurate, and environmentally sound operations.
Assisting with the start up and/or commissioning of new equipment/systems.
Ensuring procedural compliance with company, industry and regulatory standards.
Providing technical support skills and/or consultation to various engineering and
field personnel, including on-site troubleshooting if necessary.
Reviewing and updating appropriate technical training modules for internal and
contractor personnel use.
Participating in BP group-wide peer groups to facilitate communications on I&E/PLC issues throughout all levels of the company.
Reviewing and developing engineering specifications for I&E/PLC software, hardware, instrumentation equipment and facility design.
Reviewing I&E/PLC facility design to ensure appropriate company and industry
standards are satisfied.
Supporting new construction or facility modification projects with I&E, PLC, and communications specifications, programming, installation, and startup
assistance.
Analyzing I&E, PLC, communications problems or issues and developing and/or
recommending solutions.
Writing and distributing maintenance bulletins and assisting in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA's) when necessary.
Performing on-the-job or specialized technical training to field personnel as requested.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of I&E Engineering Specialist applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
A minimum of 5 years of related experience in instrumentation and electrical
engineering, including PLC installations and programming.
Demonstrated knowledge of electrical industry codes, standards, and practices.
Excellent desktop computer and software application skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. 
The willingness and ability to relocate to or commute on a daily basis to Houston, Texas.
The willingness and ability to travel up to 50% of the time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

In-depth knowledge and application experience with General Electric (GE) PLC families (90-30, VersaMax, View HMI, Cimplicity/Proficy programming), Wonderware In-Touch HMI, electrical protection devices, industry transmitters, MODBUS protocol, TCP/IP Ethernet communications and diagnostic tools, other pipeline facility equipment, and Pipeline SCADA systems.
Project management experience using the stage gate process or similar project excellence tools.
Experience working with I&E contractors.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and/or ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP) certification.
