LABOR RELATIONS MANAGER

JOB PURPOSE:

 

Provides a high level of expertise in the area of effective Union/Management relations and contract negotiations. Responsible for the negotiation, administration and interpretation of all Collective Bargaining Agreements. Provides advice and coaching to HR Partners, leaders and employees on the Collective Bargaining Agreements and labor relations issues and strives for consistency and adherence.  Implements strategies that will prevent future organizing of employees.

 

Note:  Weight: Should reflect the overall importance with respect to the major accountabilities.  Total weighting must equal 100%.

 MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:Weight

Develops and executes negotiation strategies in anticipation of business needs and goals.

Teaches effective negotiation skills and techniques and acts as a resource for the

Interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Establishes and maintains effective labor/management relations and partnerships with 

business leaders and union leadership.  Ensures continuous improvement.

Assists the business units in negotiating Letter Agreements and resolving grievances and other labor issues, including arbitration.

Provides a resource to ensure the consistent application and interpretation of the

Collective Bargaining Agreements by line management.

Responds to and represents the Company in issues presented to the National Labor

Relations Board and other litigation.

Promotes the effectiveness of HR professionals and business leaders in the areas of

contract administration, grievance (dispute) resolution and discipline administration by

serving as counsel and coordinating their professional development.

Designs and implements effective union avoidance plans.

Position Title: Manager, Labor Relations  

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor?s degree in business or related field or equivalent work experience.

 

Effective management and leadership skills.

 

Strong work ethic and energy level.

 

Well developed problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

 

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

 

Excels in a team-oriented work environment.

 

Ability to work in a high pressure and occasionally adverse environment.

 

A working knowledge of labor agreements and labor/employment law.

 

IMPACT ON THE ORGANIZATION:

Identifies key labor contract issues that have financial or operational consequences.

 

Assist leaders in successful implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

 

Ensures compliance with labor and employment law, mitigating employee complaints and financial impact to the company.

 

Lead spokesperson for General Negotiations.

 

WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Position teams with the Corporate Senior Vice President ? Administration.

 

Interacts regularly with Business Unit Executives, Leaders and Union Leadership.

 

Leads Labor Consultants on a day to day basis.
