Maintenance Mechanic - DD - Vernon, TX
Position Duties
Perform skilled work in the checking, inspecting, repair, maintenance, installation and construction of plant equipment and apparatus.
1. Diagnose trouble, dismantle, overhaul, reassemble and install equipment in the performance of duties, such as: install electric motors; perform general repairs to boilers, pulverizers, generators and turbines; pack main steam and feedwater valves, pack pumps, repair or replace boiler gauge glass; overhaul and maintain sootblowers; replace and fit bearings on pumps and fans; renew preheater seals and set seals to prescribed clearance; overhaul and repair equipment such as conveyors, align pulverizers, pumps, fans and their related motors; fabricate and install pipe and fittings to specifications indicated on shop drawings or construction prints; repair and maintain valves on equipment such as heaters and condensers; use monitoring equipment such as vibration and thermal test equipment to assess equipment and conditions and to perform single plant balancing; perform repair work on air compressors, such as pack stuffing box, clean water jackets, clean inner and after coolers, repair and replace valves.
2. Operate all shop and portable machine tools in work which requires determining methods of machining and producing accurate measurements on simple contours and misc. (general machine work).
3. Perform all position electric arc and oxyacetylene structural and pipe welding on equipment such as fittings, fans and fan linings, pulverizers, coal pipes, conveyors, tractors, screens, low pressure pipe (150 p.s.i. maximum) and steel structures, heaters and evaporators; brazing work as may be required on such items, metal spray items for wear and abrasion purposes; P.A. fan runners and casings, and conveyor pulleys; perform silver and soft soldering such as tubing, piping and common connections.
4. Erect and remove scaffolding as required to perform assigned tasks.
5. Inspect, repair or install insulation and covering on equipment such as valves, fittings, piping, turbines, heat exchangers, boiler and fan casings, evaporators which includes cutting and fitting on irregular-shaped items and halved or partial coverings; select proper insulating materials and install finished covering as required.
6. Perform carpentry, masonry and painting work such as fabricate and erect heavy scaffolding, build skids and protective covering for equipment and material, repairs to buildings and structures, hang doors, finish concrete, lay brick, serve as lead person on major painting jobs and perform skilled painting.
7. Operate and maintain mobile equipment such as cranes and hoists, dozers, endloaders, scrapers and road graders.
8. Perform rigging and blocking for overhead lifts using mobile cranes and fixed location bridge cranes.
9. Inspect, check and prepare plant systems and equipment for startup and shutdown. Perform local operations to place equipment in service.
10. Perform boiler inspections and component repairs as necessary to ensure reliable operation.
11. Operate and monitor coal conveying equipment including feeders, scalpers, diverter gates and shut-off gates; take care of coal feed mills and burners, and observe conditions of fires and furnaces.
12. Assist in isolating equipment and placing clearance tags, as directed.
13. Operate, inspect, clean and maintain water treating systems and equipment, including sewage treatment facilities.
14. Perform required maintenance on heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment.
15. Perform all thermal insulation and brickwork required to complete assigned job.
16. Operate automotive equipment and its associated equipment and perform duties incidental to the operation of such equipment.
17. Obtain permits and determine that equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged. Place and remove protective grounds in accordance with clearance orders as required.
18. Prepare and maintain records as required.
19. Maintain equipment, tools and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
20. Perform duties in accordance with operating instructions, safety regulations and current practices.
21. Report irregularities and abnormal conditions to the appropriate supervision.
22. Instruct and direct other employees assigned to assist in the work.
23. Assist in the training of other employees in work of this nature.
24. Train for and carry out assignments in fire fighting, first aid and other emergency response program.
25. Assist fellow employees as required.
26. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
Work Hours / Travel Requirements
Regular work week will be 40 hours per week on days. Work schedules will occassionaly require work on nights, weekends, holidays and rotating shifts. Call outs and periodic weekends on call are manditory condition for this job. Occasional travel is required.
Education Requirements
High School Education, 2 year degree or certification in technology field preferred.
Experience Requirements
Must have a working knowledge of plant maintenance, materials, practices, tools, rigging, scaffolding and blocking involved in the work.
Must have a working knowledge of the layout, construction, and functions of equipment and apparatus in the plant and about the property.
Must have a working knowledge of equipment clearance procedures, and the rules, safety practices and procedures applicable to the work.
Must be able to read, interpret and work from moderately complex prints and specifications.
Must have demonstrated the ability to lead and direct other employees and coordinate the work involved.
Must have demonstrated the ability to physically and mentally perform work in all areas and heights required.
Must possess the appropriate State driver's license.
Must obtain and maintain all necessary certifications and licenses as required.
Special Qualifications (Training, Skills ETC.)
Strong mechanical aptitude, team player, self starter and the desire to take on new tasks.
