Shell Global Solutions (OGUS) is currently seeking a Metallurgical/Mechanical Engineer for its Westhollow Technology Center in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for providing metallurgical technical support to our customer sites (primarily refining and chemical, including 3rd party customers) to increase long-term reliability and reduce equipment integrity losses at their sites. You may also provide fitness for service and remaining life assessments as well as welding technical support. You will work in close coordination with other members of the Pressure Equipment Integrity group, process experts and pressure equipment integrity staff at the customer site.

Key Accountabilities Include:
Providing technical support to customers on strategies for materials selection for new and in-service equipment using understanding of various damage mechanisms, FFS considerations and risk assessment
Performing failure analyses for in-service components, determining root cause of failure, and recommendations for mitigation
Providing integrity assessment of materials from in-service equipment
Performing FFS evaluations using API 579 as technical basis
Performing remaining life assessments for equipment in high temperature service using Omega methodology
Performing stress analyses (thermal and mechanical) using stress analysis software including FEA
Providing welding technical support to the customers in the form of specialty welding procedures approval, filler metal selection and specialty repair procedures
Providing assistance in the implementation of API RBI in process units
Consulting with the customer to provide troubleshooting and technical support in the areas of metallurgy, welding, fabrication, inspection, and equipment integrity management
Providing technical support to major projects in the areas of welding and materials selection through coordination with our Project Task Force staff
Developing and maintaining Best Practice Guides in the materials area, and supporting documents for corrosion, equipment integrity, and inspection issues in the areas of fitness for service, design and welding, including developing/managing implementation plans and knowledge transfer to locations (e.g., presentation or training packages or corrosion control documents)

Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must possess a Bachelor?s Degree in Corrosion, Metallurgical, Mechanical or Welding Engineering and have approximately 3 or more years experience in a refinery or chemical plant.

Additional Requirements:
Proficiency in ASME design codes, and API inspection codes and standards
Good working knowledge of API 579, PREFIS and OMEGA desirable
Experience in using FEA programs such as ABAQUS/ANSYS/MARC, Compress and Caesar II desirable
Ability to work easily with all levels of inspectors, technicians, engineers and managers within the Corrosion/Materials and Inspection technical community
Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)
Good organizational skills
A self-starter who works well with others in the discipline
Ability to work well globally
Comfort with change and ability to respond rapidly to it
