Nuclear Computer Technician
INDICATIVE DUTIES:
Repairs, tests, inspects, and maintains computers associated with nuclear generating stations such as, but not limited to: plant process computer, security computer, and the core protection calculator. Analyzes computer malfunctions through the application of diagnostic computer programs, instruction sets or other troubleshooting techniques. Maintains, tests, and adjusts peripheral equipment such as, but not limited to: printers, video terminals, card readers, fixed and moving head discs; controllers, magnetic tape drives, and primary sensing apparatus. Reports test findings and prepares written procedures for repairing, testing and maintenance of computer and peripheral equipment. Maintains and calibrate test instrumentation. Maintains spare parts for computers and peripherals. Maintains accurate records of testing, calibration and maintenance as required. Keeps electrical and electronic drawings up-to-date reflecting changes or alterations. Performs general cleaning and housekeeping duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of: Advanced electronic theory, digital and analog. Digital electronics as applied to computer technology. Application of sophisticated electronics test instrumentation utilized in computer maintenance and testing. Knowledge of assembly language and other computer programming methods, such as fortran highly desirable. Nuclear power plant reactor regulating and protection systems. Basic knowledge of nuclear physics and radiation protection. General knowledge of nuclear power plant instrumentation.
Ability to: Apply required knowledge. Work from written and oral instructions. Read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams, elementaries, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, instruction manuals and logic diagrams. Test, repair, and maintain digital computer and nuclear power plant instrumentation. The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are of a level comparable with those normally acquired through a high school education and advanced technical study with additional study and experience in digital computer technology and maintenance.
A minimum of two (2) years work experience in your speciality is required. Demonstration of required knowledge through examination.
