Operations Analyst I

Summary of Position: This position serves as the analytical arm of the retail natural gas operations business unit.  The Operations Analyst will work closely with the Operations Manager and all members of the retail operations group to maintain contract and other customer data, interact with multiple business units to ensure deals are entered, hedged, and billed correctly, and delve into the drivers of the business unit?s profits and losses.  The candidate should possess strong analytical skills, as well as the ability to find creative solutions in an evolving and growing business.  The responsibilities of this position have recently been expanded, offering the opportunity for an innovative approach toward improved analytics and processes.

 

Responsibilities:

? Creating and modifying reports utilized by the team to allow for greatest efficiency and comprehensiveness.

 

? Uncovering opportunities to improve processes; offering recommended process changes through use of flow chart models; meeting with internal departments to obtain consensus on process change and implementing changes as appropriate.

 

? Compiling monthly report on operational trends such as load increases/decreases or gained/lost business behind each utility system, changes to pricing structures, impacts on loads from fuel switching deals, etc.

 

? Working with Operations Analyst II and Manager to perform cost analyses:

o  Analyzing cost components

o  Clarifying natural gas utility billing items

o  Creating sophisticated spreadsheets to analyze costs and to allow improved efficiency of future analyses

o  Communicating findings effectively to manager and making recommendations on any changes to pricing structure to recover all costs.

 

? Managing pricing tables and interacting with sales and wholesale to ensure all tables are current.

 

? Maintain data integrity in internal system with regard to customer deal components.

 

? Coordinate with Billing and Accounting to resolve any outstanding accounting issues.

 

? Provide general support to manager in performing analyses as needed.

 

Dimensions:

? BS or BA preferred.

 

? Strong communication skills to be able to provide status reports, recommendations and to advise Operations.

 

? Analyst II and multiple management levels of any obstacles to achieving goals as well as the recommended solutions to eliminating or minimizing those obstacles.

 

? Ability to generate and interpret data to make recommendations to management.

 

? Exceptional creative thinking and problem solving skills.

 

? Strong attention to detail.
