Petrophysicist

Location:
Houston, TX

Relocation Options:
Relocation will be in accordance with current BP guidelines.

BP has positions that are similar in skill sets and responsibilities, but may vary by business unit and location.  To expedite the hiring process, BP has chosen to leave these positions posted on an on-going basis.  We do close them periodically to update our records and then re-open them as a new file.  This position is the same as requisition #4798 and #6193.  If you have already applied for these positions (requisition #4798 or #6193) and have met the minimum requirements, there is no need to apply again.  If you did not meet the minimum qualifications and there has been a change in your qualification status, we would be happy to have you reapply for these opportunities.

BP is currently seeking a Petrophysicist in our Houston office to work on its Wamsutter Asset for North American Gas.  The Wamsutter Asset is located in Wyoming and is a fast paced exciting environment to work where there is the opportunity to test and implement new technology. The Petrophysicist role is performed in a multi-disciplinary team environment where geophysical, geological, petrophysical and engineering data are fully integrated to develop reservoir understanding while generating development and exploratory drilling prospects. We are looking for individuals who have developing skills or expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Operations - The preparation of data acquisition programs as part of well planning, wireline, logged-while-drilling and mudlogger contractor selection, pore pressure prediction and real-time monitoring, wellsite supervision, including modular dynamic tester and other specialist operations, routine and special core analysis monitoring/supervision, and partner relations.
Integrated Reservoir Description - The interpretation of petrophysical data and integrated with geologic and engineering data to enhance our understanding of reservoir flow units and production dynamics. The determination of net pay, porosity, saturation and permeability modeling, reserves assessments and associated risks and uncertainties, from regional/sub-regional studies work related to exploration to residual hydrocarbon determinations.
Seismic Rock Properties - Rock Physics applications, seismic wellties, extraction and interpretation of meaningful seismic attributes, lithology and fluid prediction, 4D time-lapse seismic studies. An understanding of seismic processing, amplitude variation with offset, inversion and attribute extraction and prospect development is essential for this role.
Production Petrophysics - The development and application of surveillance plans, appropriate data acquisition for flow optimization, interpretation of diagnostic wireline and engineering data for remedial wellwork. Includes the integration of dynamic data into static model interpretations.

BP's Petrophysicists are key to achieving our Reservoir & Wells 2015 Vision of "being the industry leader in maximizing economic recovery by continually reaching and redefining the technical limit from our rich portfolio of mature assets and new opportunities." Priorities in this quest are innovation, technology, people, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), integration, and fully integrating work processes.  If you would find this exciting, BP would like to talk with you.

Accountabilities Include:

Providing technical support in the optimal use of seismic rock properties for exploration, development and reservoir management. This includes rock properties, seismic modeling, AVO, inversion, 4D, seismic acquisition Quality Control (QC), HSE and seismic processing QC.
Working with Business Unit's (BU's) in identifying the petrophysical parameters, which are critical to the evaluation of exploration and/or development projects.
Performing log QC and analysis, analyzing integrated data and working closely with members of the Geophysical Services team to derive models of appropriate seismic responses to key petrophysical parameters, and providing technical assurance for the BU's.
Providing coaching to staff.
Playing a significant role in influencing and eventually helping to steer various networks and technology projects, through the promotion of best practices as well as contributions to existing/new research & development.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of Petrophysicist applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree or higher in a relevant engineering or geosciences discipline.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in petrophysical work.
Experience working for an operating company.
Experience with rock properties petrophysics, integrated reservoir description, production petrophysics, or a strong interest to move your career into this direction.
A commitment to HSE.

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Thorough understanding of geosciences, exploration activities and drilling operations, including well operations support.
Experience in petrophysical rock properties analysis.
Experience working within a multi-disciplinary team doing development/production related interpretation.
Experience working with logging operations and log evaluation/interpretation.
Proficiency with Geolog or similar petrophysical interpretation software packages.
Experience with the Landmark software suite.

If you are selected for the position, your employment will be contingent upon submission to and successful completion of a post-offer/pre-placement drug and alcohol screening as well as pre-placement verification of the information and qualifications provided during the selection process.
