Power Systems Studies Engineer

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

- Using PC based modeling software, perform power system studies / design activities on industrial and commercial electrical power distribution systems, including: Stability (Transient & Dynamic), Islanding Short Circuit, Protection Coordination, Arc Flash, Load Flow, Motor Starting, Power Factor, Harmonic analysis and Filter Design and other related studies.
- Work directly and form excellent working relationships with both customers and GE Sales teams to develop study opportunities, develop and issue proposals and execute work scopes.
- Perform on-site work in customer facilities to gather study / design data and perform power system measurements when required.
- Development of study / design reports for delivery to customers.

Qualifications / Requirements:

- BS in electrical engineering, masters degree preferred
- Experience with commercial software for performing power system studies such as EasyPower, SKM or ETAP. (EasyPower is a big plus)
- 10 years engineering experience with power distribution systems with 5 years performing power system studies.
- Detailed knowledge of power distribution and utilization equipment and application considerations including the various types of switchgear, relays, breakers, transformers, motors, generators including control and excitation and adjustable speed drives.
- Reviewing the final report with the customer and recommending upgrades or changes to the customers' electrical system based on the outcome of the study
- Thorough PC / Windows 2000 / Office software literacy including the use of Word for report generation and the development of sophisticated engineering calculation spreadsheets in Excel.
- Willingness to travel occasionally ({ 20%). However, most work is office based.
- Strong Customer Service Orientation.

Desired:

- Prior experience as a field engineer servicing power delivery equipment a big plus
- Must have general knowledge and awareness of the various software packages (Easy Power, SKM and GE PSEC Software) and specific detailed experience on at least one of the commercially available packages.
- General knowledge and awareness of relevant international industry standards including IEC, NFPA, NEMA, IEEE, ANSI Standards.
