Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) Engineer
PRA Senior Engineer Location: Progress Energy Corporate Headquarters, Raleigh, NC
The Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) engineer will be responsible for PRA model development and maintenance, as well as application of risk methodology in support of nuclear plant operation. Progress Energy has General Electric, Westinghouse, and B&W plant designs and the individual would support one or more of those plants. The candidate should have a working knowledge of modeling equipment and human reliability and the ASME quality standard. In addition, the candidate should have experience with PSA applications including maintenance rule, the significance determination process, and use of risk information in license amendment requests. Additional experience in the areas of BWR technology, human reliability analysis, and level 2 PRA would be of additional benefit. The individual will work primarily in the corporate office but will be expected to travel periodically to the nuclear plant sites.
Candidates should have experience in project management with teams of diverse individuals, a strong work ethic, high standards, and demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate will interface with teams of individuals as a peer project manager and will be expected to lead project teams without positional authority.
BS Engineering degree required.
At least four years of PSA experience is preferred.
NOTE: This position may be filled at the Senior Engineer level if justified by the candidate's qualifications and experience.
Progress Energy's mission is to provide a safe, secure working environment for personnel in the plants. The selected candidate will be required to obtain U.S. Nuclear Power Plant Unescorted Access and will participate in the company's Fitness-for-Duty Program. Candidates may also be required to maintain qualifications and on-call responsibilities in support of the plant Emergency Response Organization. In order to obtain unescorted access, the selected candidate will be required to complete a Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). Information from this form will be used to conduct an extensive background investigation as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. It is unlikely you will be granted access if (1) you have had a positive drug or alcohol test within the past five years, (2) you have used or possessed drugs in the past five years, (3) you have a felony conviction in the past five years, (4) you have recent misdemeanor convictions, (5) you falsify or omit information or fail to fully.
Basic qualifications:
Typically works under general supervision and exercises judgment. Knows and effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures. May work on projects or tasks that are fairly complex and varied. Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET or equivalently accredited school and 1-4 years professional experience.
