SURE Exploration and Appraisal Geologist - B - #1

Location: Houston, Texas, United States Overview: Shell Exploration and Production Company (SEPCo) is engaged in exploring for and producing oil and natural gas reserves in the United States. For more than 80 years, we have been an industry leader in finding new energy supplies and developing technology to safely recover them. A principle area of concentration is the Gulf of Mexico and South Texas.

Shell Unconventional Resources (SURE) is developing heavy oil and oil shale by applying a novel thermal-recovery process invented by Shell Technology E&P. The current activities are concentrated in North America but the portfolio includes potential targets around the world.

SURE is currently seeking an Exploration and Appraisal Geologist for its Houston, Texas location.

Responsibilities:

In this position, you will be responsible for part of the subsurface geologic and geophysical appraisal of the ongoing and future projects in SURE.

Key accountabilities include:
Designing a 2006 appraisal and drilling (corehole) program, completing the permitting process, and executing the program, including wellsite geology ? all in 2006
Guiding a team in building a basin-wide subsurface model of an oil shale basin with thousands of feet of corehole data and analyses in house
Completing a detailed fracture analysis on a basin-wide scale in an oil shale basin
Understanding the Hydrogeology of several oil shale basins
Completing a Technical Resource Assessment in a heavy oil project within a joint National Oil Company / Shell project as part of a 4 to 6 person team
Performing regional basin assessment of a major heavy oil deposit focused on identification of sweet spots for potential in-situ projects
Performing field reconnaissance exploration geology in North Africa and possible in the Middle East
Designing a field program and supervise National Oil Company and possibly University students in executing that program
Detailed screening of 2nd and 3rd tier oil shale and heavy oil opportunities globally and bringing forward recommendations for new projects
Updating and improving a global database of opportunities and building a library and database of existing data

Requirements:

To be considered for this position, you must possess a Bachelor's Degree and have approximately 5 or more years of E&P experience. A variety of previous experiences will be helpful. Skill with ArcGIS, Petrel, and GeoGraphix would be an advantage.
